John Teariki
John French "Tony" Teariki (died 5 October 1983) was a French Polynesian politician. He served as a member of the French National Assembly from 1961 to 1967, and as a member of the Territorial Assembly from 1957 until 1983. Biography Teariki was born in Afareaitu in 1914. Legislative elections were held in French Polynesia on 23 May 1982 for the Territorial Assembly. Following the elections, a government was formed by Tahoera'a Huiraatira and Aia Api, who had won 16 of the 30 seats in the Assembly. Campaign A total of 398 candidates contested the elections representing around 30 parties and lists, of which fewer than 20 were women. Results Elected members Aftermath Following the elections, the Assembly elected members of the Government Council. French legislative elections took place on 5 and 12 March 1967 to elect the third National Assembly of the Fifth Republic. In December 1965, Charles de Gaulle was re-elected President of France in the first Presidential election by universal suffrage. However, contrary to predictions, there had been a second ballot.
