John Sugden (historian)
John Sugden (1820 – 20 June 1897) was a bishop of the Free Church of England. He was consecrated by Edward Cridge and others on 20 August 1876 in Christ Church, Lambeth. Free Church Of England
The Free Church of England (FCE) is an Episcopal Church based in England. The church was founded when a number of congregations separated from the established Church of England in the middle of the 19th century. The doctrinal basis of the FCE, together with its Episcopal structures, organisation, worship, ministry and ethos are recognisably Anglican although it is not a member of the Anglican Communion. Its worship style follows that of the Book of Common Prayer or conservative modern-language forms that belong to the Anglican tradition. The Church of England acknowledges the FCE as a church with valid orders and its canons permit a range of shared liturgical and ministerial activities. Edward Cridge
Edward Cridge (December 17, 1817 – May 5, 1913) was a British Canadians, British-Canadian clergyman and Reform movement, social reformer. Born and raised in England and ordained in the Church of England, Cridge—a low church Evangelical Anglicanism, evangelical Anglican—disagreed with the then-ascendant high church movement in Anglicanism. Offered a new opportunity, he and his wife, Mary, migrated to the then-frontier outpost of Fort Victoria (British Columbia), Fort Victoria on Vancouver Island in 1855, where he was appointed to lead the congregation that eventually became known as Christ Church Cathedral (Victoria, British Columbia), Christ Church Cathedral. He also became a prominent advocate for the poor and underprivileged in the fast-growing city of Victoria, British Columbia, Victoria.
