John Sharples, Jr.
John Sharples (24 January 1847 – 30 July 1913) was a Canadian business person and politician. Born in Notre-Dame de Québec, the son of John Sharples and Honoria Ann Alleyn, Sharples was educated at Collège Sainte-Marie in Montreal. In 1871, he joined his father's business. He was also the president of the Union Bank of Canada and of the Chronicle Printing Company. He was a member of the Quebec City Council from 1894 to 1898. He was mayor of Sillery, a post his father also held. He was appointed to the Legislative Council of Quebec for Stadacona in 1893. He served until his death in 1913. Legislative Council Of Quebec
The Legislative Council of Quebec (, ) was the unelected upper house of the bicameral legislature in the Canadian province of Quebec from 1867 to 1968. The Legislative Assembly was the elected lower house. The council was composed of 24 members, appointed by the lieutenant governor upon the recommendation of the premier. Each councillor nominally represented a portion of the Province of Quebec called a division. The boundaries of these divisions were identical to the ones used for Canada East by the Legislative Council of the Province of Canada and were also identical to the boundaries still used today by the Senate of Canada for Quebec. The division boundaries were never changed to accommodate territorial expansions of Quebec in 1898 and 1912. John Charles Kaine
John Charles Kaine (1854–1923) was a Quebec politician. He was born in the parish of Notre-Dame de Québec, October 18, 1854, son of John Kaine and Ellen McGowan. He studied at the Commercial Academy of Quebec. Kaine entered the business world in 1886, and was a ship-owner and wood merchant. He became president of the Kaine and Bird transport company. He represented the Lake Champlain Transportation Co., and Burleigh and Weeks, a wood-pulp import company in Whitehall, New York. John Charles Kaine was elected the Liberal member for Québec-Ouest in 1904. He was sworn in as a Minister Without Portfolio in the Gouin cabinet on January 3, 1906, and was re-elected in 1908, and 1912. The Union Bank of Canada was a Canadian chartered bank which operated 1865–1925, primarily in the Canadian Prairies.
