John Scott (1639–1695)
John Scott (1639–1695) was an English clergyman, known as a devotional writer, and a defender of Anglican orthodoxy in his preaching. Life He was son of Thomas Scott, a grazier of Chippenham, Wiltshire, and served as a youth a three years' apprenticeship in London. Then, changing his course of life, he matriculated at New Inn Hall, Oxford, 13 December 1658. He took no degree at the time, but later in life proceeded B.D. and D.D. (9 July 1685). He became successively minister of St Thomas, Southwark, perpetual curate of Trinity in the Minories, rector of St Peter-le-Poor, 1 February 1678 (resigned before August 1691), and rector of St Giles-in-the-Fields, being presented to the last benefice by the king, 7 August 1691. He was buried on 15 March 1694/5 (Old Style) in the rector's vault in St. Giles-in-the-Fields Church. John Guier Scott
John Guier Scott (December 26, 1819 – May 16, 1892) was a U.S. Representative from Missouri. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Scott completed preparatory studies. He was graduated from Bethlehem Academy, Pennsylvania, in civil engineering. He moved to Missouri in 1842. He served as general manager of the Iron Mountain Co. at Iron Mountain. He established the Irondale Iron Co. at Irondale in 1858. He was an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for election in 1862 to the Thirty-eighth Congress. Scott was subsequently elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-eighth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of John W. Noell and served from December 7, 1863, to March 3, 1865. He engaged in the drug business in St. Louis. He resumed mining, and built furnaces, at Scotia, Missouri, in 1868 and at Nova Scotia a year later. He returned in 1870 to St. Louis. John Scott (May 18, 1782 – October 1, 1861) was a Delegate and a U.S. Representative from Missouri. Born in Hanover County, Virginia in 1782, Scott moved with his parents to Indiana Territory in 1802. He was graduated from Princeton College in 1805. He studied law. He was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, in 1806. He owned slaves. He presented credentials as a Delegate-elect to the Fourteenth Congress from the Territory of Missouri and served from August 6, 1816 to January 13, 1817, when the election was declared illegal and the seat vacant. Scott was elected as a Delegate to the Fifteenth and Sixteenth Congresses and served from August 4, 1817, to March 3, 1821. John Scott was the first mayor of Cumberland, Maryland from 1816 to 1823. John Scott (April 24, 1824 – September 23, 1903) was an American politician, businessman, lawyer, and soldier. Born in Jefferson County, Ohio, Scott taught school in Ohio and Kentucky. He studied law in Ohio and was admitted to the Ohio bar. While in Kentucky, he enlisted in the army and took part in the Mexican–American War. In 1854, Scott settled in Nevada, Iowa, where he practiced law and was in real estate. He was elected to the Iowa State Senate. During the American Civil War, Scott was a colonel in the 32nd Iowa Volunteer Infantry Regiment. After the Civil War, Scott was elected Lieutenant Governor of Iowa. Scott wrote books about the Scott family and the 32nd Infantry Regiment. He died in Des Moines, Iowa. John Scott Martin (1 April 1926 – 6 January 2009) was an English actor born in Toxteth, Liverpool, Lancashire. He made many film, stage and television appearances, but one of his most famous, though unseen, roles was as a Dalek operator in the long-running BBC science fiction television series ''Doctor Who''. Career Martin operated Daleks from 1965's '' The Chase'' through 1988's '' Remembrance of the Daleks'' making him the longest-running Dalek operator.
