John Saunders (English Judge)
Sir John Henry Boulton Saunders (born 15 March 1949), formerly styled The Hon. Mr Justice Saunders, is a retired High Court judge (England and Wales), High Court Judge of the King's Bench Division. Saunders was Call to the bar, called to the bar in 1972 and acted as a prosecutor for the Department of Health and Social Security throughout the 1980s. He was a Recorder (judge), Recorder between 1990 and 2004 and became a King's Counsel, Queen's Counsel in 1991. In 2004, Saunders was appointed a full-time Circuit judge (England and Wales), circuit judge as well as taking the honorary appointment of Recorder of Birmingham (the most senior judge at Queen Elizabeth II Law Courts, Birmingham, Birmingham Crown Court) and in April 2007 was appointed to the High Court judge (England and Wales), High Court bench and received the customary Knight Bachelor, knighthood. Jim Devine
James Devine (born 21 May 1953) is a former Labour Party politician in Scotland. He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Livingston from 2005 until 2010 and chairman of the Scottish Labour Party between 1994 and 1995. On 16 June 2009, following the 2009 expenses scandal, he was barred by the Labour Party from seeking re-election at the 2010 general election, after reports he claimed expenses for work on his home from a non-existent firm. He was convicted of false accounting on 10 February 2011 and sentenced to 16 months' imprisonment on 31 March 2011. Beginning in the 1990s, and going as far until its shutdown in 2011, employees of the now-defunct newspaper ''News of the World'' engaged in phone hacking, police bribery, and exercising improper influence in the pursuit of stories. Perverting the course of justice is an offence committed when a person prevents justice from being served on themselves or on another party. 2011 England Riots
A series of riots took place between 6 and 11 August 2011 in cities and towns across England, which saw looting and arson, as well as mass deployment of police and the deaths of five people. The protests started in Tottenham Hale, London, following the killing of Mark Duggan, a local Black man who was shot dead by police on 4 August.
