John Rudling
John Rudling (31 August 1907 – 18 December 1983) was an English actor active on both stage and screen who was known for playing the butler Brabinger in the BBC sitcom ''To the Manor Born''. Biography and television roles John Rudling was born in South Norwood, near Croydon, in South London, and was a qualified draughtsman before making his mark as a character actor, beginning with the RSC. He moved on to work at the Players' Theatre, London, before touring with ENSA. He worked in repertory as an accomplished actor and director until film and television work came his way. He was a member of the company at the Theatre Royal, York, for many years. He appeared in the Ealing comedy films. He appeared on television in a number of TV programmes such as ''The Invisible Man'' in 1959, ''Porridge'' in 1975, '' Wodehouse Playhouse'', ''The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin'', ''The Liver Birds'' and ''The Two Ronnies''. Maida Vale
Maida Vale ( ) is an affluent residential district in North West London, England, north of Paddington, southwest of St John's Wood and south of Kilburn, on Edgware Road. It is part of the City of Westminster and is northwest of Charing Cross. It has many late Victorian and Edwardian blocks of mansion flats. The area is home to the BBC Maida Vale Studios. Toponym The name of the area is derived from a pub and an Italian battle during the Napoleonic Wars. The original pub called ''The Hero of Maida'' stood on Edgware Road near the Regent's Canal until it closed in 1992. Ronnie Corbett
Ronald Balfour Corbett (4 December 1930 – 31 March 2016) was a Scottish actor, broadcaster, comedian and writer. He had a long association with Ronnie Barker in the BBC television comedy sketch show ''The Two Ronnies''. He achieved prominence in David Frost's 1960s satirical comedy programme '' The Frost Report'' (with Barker) and subsequently starred in sitcoms such as '' No – That's Me Over Here!'', '' Now Look Here'', and '' Sorry!''. ''Law and Disorder'' is a 1958 British crime comedy film directed by Charles Crichton and starring Michael Redgrave, Robert Morley, Joan Hickson, and Lionel Jeffries. It was based on the 1954 novel ''Smugglers' Circuit'' by Denys Roberts. The film was initially directed by Henry Cornelius, who died while making the film. He was replaced by Crichton. Plot Percy Brand is a career criminal, a veteran of various cons and schemes, and he is regularly sent to prison by judge Sir Edward Crichton. ''The Titfield Thunderbolt'' is a 1953 British comedy film directed by Charles Crichton and starring Stanley Holloway, Naunton Wayne, George Relph and John Gregson. The screenplay concerns a group of villagers trying to keep their branch line operating after British Railways decided to close it. The film was written by T. E. B. Clarke and was inspired by the restoration of the narrow gauge railway, narrow gauge Talyllyn Railway in Wales, the world's first heritage railway run by volunteers. "Titfield" is an amalgamation of the names Titsey and Limpsfield, two villages in Surrey near Clarke's home at Oxted. Michael Truman was the producer. ''Night and the City'' is a 1950 British film noir directed by Jules Dassin and starring Richard Widmark, Gene Tierney and Googie Withers. It is based on the novel of the same name by Gerald Kersh. Shot on location in London and at Shepperton Studios, the plot revolves around an ambitious hustler who meets continual failures. Dassin later confessed that he had never read the novel upon which the film is based. In an interview appearing on The Criterion Collection DVD release, Dassin recalls that the casting of Tierney was in response to a request by Darryl Zanuck, who was concerned that personal problems had rendered the actress "suicidal" and hoped that work would improve her state of mind.
