John Redd Hutcheson
John Redd Hutcheson (January 13, 1886 – January 23, 1962) was the ninth president of Virginia Tech. Early life and education Hutcheson was born to Robert Francis Hutcheson and Mary Claiborne Barksdale on January 13, 1886, near Charlotte Courthouse, Virginia. He earned a B.S. in 1907 and M.S. in 1909, both from Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute (VPI; later Virginia Tech). He also received an honorary D.Sci degree from Clemson College in 1937 and D.Agric. from North Carolina State College in 1947. Hutcheson also attended field artillery officer training school during World War I. Career Hutcheson taught and served as principal in schools in Virginia and Mississippi and taught at the University of Virginia before joining VPI at the Virginia Agricultural Extension Service as a livestock specialist in 1914. Cassell Coliseum
Cassell Coliseum is a multi-purpose arena in Blacksburg, Virginia, United States, that opened in 1962. It is home to the Virginia Tech Hokies men's and women's basketball teams, wrestling team, and volleyball team. It currently seats 8,925 for basketball games. History Built as a replacement for the much smaller War Memorial Gymnasium, the Coliseum's construction began in 1961. It was fully completed in December 1964 at a cost of $2.7 million. Sun Bowl
The Sun Bowl is a college football bowl game that has been played since 1935 in the southwestern United States at El Paso, Texas. Along with the Sugar Bowl and Orange Bowl, it is the second-oldest bowl game in the country, behind the Rose Bowl. Usually held near the end of December, games are played at the Sun Bowl stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at El Paso. Since 2011, it has featured teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the Pac-12 Conference. This arrangement will continue through the 2025 season, with either Pac-12 schools, or Pac-12 "legacy schools" (the 10 schools that have left the conference in 2024 for the Big Ten, Big 12, and ACC) fulfilling previous Pac-12 bowl obligations for the next two seasons. In North America, a bowl game, or simply bowl, is one of a number of postseason college football games primarily played by NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) teams. For most of its history, the FBS did not use a playoff tournament to determine an annual national champion, instead relying on a vote by sportswriters or coaches. In place of such a playoff, cities developed regional festivals featuring bowls. Prior to 2002, bowl game statistics were not included in players' career totals. Radford Army Ammunition Plant (RFAAP) is an ammunition manufacturing complex for the U.S. military with facilities located in Pulaski and Montgomery Counties, Virginia. The primary mission of the RFAAP is to manufacture propellants and explosives in support of field artillery, air defense, tank, missile, aircraft, and naval weapons systems.
