John Rawlinson (priest)
John Rawlinson (1576 – 1631) was an English churchman and academic who was Principal of St Edmund Hall, Oxford from 1610. Life He was son of Robert Rawlinson, merchant tailor of London, and was admitted to Merchant Taylors' School in 1585. He was elected scholar of St John's College, Oxford, in 1591, and graduated B.A. 5 July 1595, and M.A. 21 May 1599. He was acting as a college lecturer by 1599, and is stated to have been master of Reading School in 1600. He was elected a fellow of his college in 1602, taking holy orders and proceeding B.D. 12 November 1605, and D.D. 1 June 1608. He gained a reputation as a preacher. From 1606 to 1610 he was rector of Taplow, Buckinghamshire; and from 1609 was vicar of Asheldam in Essex. On 1 May 1610 the provost and fellows of The Queen's College, Oxford elected him principal of St. Edmund Hall. John Rawlinson (politician)
John Frederick Peel Rawlinson (21 December 1860 – 14 January 1926) was an English barrister, politician and footballer. An amateur, he won the FA Cup with Old Etonians in 1882 and made one appearance for England in 1882 playing as a goalkeeper, before serving as a Member of Parliament for Cambridge University from 1906 to 1926. Career Football The youngest son of Sir Christopher Rawlinson, a former Chief Justice of Madras, John Rawlinson was born in New Alresford, Hampshire and educated at Twyford School, and Eton College, before going up to Trinity College, Cambridge where he won a Cambridge University football "Blue" in 1882 and 1883. He continued to play for the Old Etonians whilst at university, helping them reach three successive FA Cup finals from 1881 to 1883, losing out 3–0 to Old Carthusians in 1881 and going down to a surprise 2–1 defeat to Blackburn Olympic in 1883. John Rawlinson (cricketer, Born 1867)
John Baldwin Rawlinson (1 May 1867 – 12 May 1945) was an English people, English first-class cricketer and stockbroker. The son of Robert Rawlinson, he was born in May 1867 at Whitehaven. He was educated at Malvern College, before going up to Brasenose College, Oxford. While studying at Oxford, he made a single appearance in first-class cricket for Oxford University Cricket Club, Oxford University against A. J. Webbe, A. J. Webbe's XI at University_Parks#Cricket_ground, Oxford in 1887. Batting once in the match, he was dismissed duck (cricket), without scoring in the Oxford first innings by John Rawlin, while with the ball he took a single wicket when he dismissed Albert Leatham in the A. J. Webbe's XI first innings. Rawlinson died at Kensington in May 1945. Spike Rawlings
Spike Rawlings (birth name John Anderson Rawlinson; 7 April 1944 – 14 March 2006) was an English professional footballer who later became a TV entertainer after retiring as a sportsman. Career Football career After playing for amateur side Corinthian Juniors, Rawlinson - who played as a centre half - made his professional debut for Bury during the 1964–65 season, making a total of two League appearances that season. After the football season finished, Rawlinson moved to Barrow. During the 1965–66 season, Rawlinson scored two goals in nineteen League games for Barrow. Rawlinson later played non-league football for Runcorn, and eventually returned to Barrow (although he never appeared in a first team League game for the club again), where he got his first taste of showbiz in 1969 - after the half-time entertainment failed to show up, Rawlinson stepped in and performed instead.
