John Philip Sousa House
The John Philip Sousa House, also known historically as Wildbank, is a historic house at 12 Hicks Lane, overlooking Manhasset Bay, in Sands Point, New York. Built in 1907, it was the home of composer and bandleader John Philip Sousa (1854-1932) from 1912 until his death. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1966. and It is still a private residence and is not open to the public. Description and history The John Philip Sousa House is located on a bluff overlooking Manhasset Bay on the North Shore of Long Island in the Sands Point area of North Hempstead, New York, North Hempstead. Manhasset Bay
Manhasset Bay, New York, is an embayment in western Long Island off Long Island Sound. Description Manhasset Bay forms the northeastern boundary of the Great Neck Peninsula and the southwestern boundary of the Cow Neck Peninsula ( Port Washington Peninsula or Manhasset Neck), in Nassau County, New York. On the north side of the bay, there are three points, Barkers Point at the entrance, Plum Point coming the furthest into the Bay, and Tom's Point in the back bay. On the other side, Hewlett Point forms the entrance nearly a mile from Barkers Point. Hart Island lies in the Sound just outside the mouth of Manhasset Bay. John Philip Sousa
John Philip Sousa ( , ; November 6, 1854 – March 6, 1932) was an American composer and conductor of the late Romantic music, Romantic era known primarily for American military March (music), marches. He is known as "The March King" or the "American March King", to distinguish him from his British counterpart Kenneth J. Alford. Among Sousa's best-known marches are "The Stars and Stripes Forever" (National March of the United States of America), "Semper Fidelis (march), Semper Fidelis" (official march of the United States Marine Corps), "The Liberty Bell (march), The Liberty Bell", "The Thunderer", and "The Washington Post (march), The Washington Post".
