John Peters (DJ)
John Peters (1949 or 1950 – 24 May 2025) was a British disc jockey and long established personality in the East Midlands region. Known for his distinctive voice, he presented shows on many of the region's radio stations, including Radio Trent, GEM-AM, Saga 106.6 FM and 106.6 Smooth Radio, Radio2XS and Gravity FM in Grantham, Lincolnshire. Peters latterly presented three shows on Boom Radio: a Friday show called ''The Friday Fandango'' at 6pm, a Saturday show at 4 pm called ''John's Jukebox'' and also The Vintage Charts on Sunday at 12 noon. He also presented ''The Fifties Chart'' on sister station Boom Light directly following this at 2 pm. Early career Peters sent a demo to BBC Radio One in 1968 which got a favourable response from the producers panel, although it did not lead to a job. Ashford, Surrey
Ashford is a town in Borough of Spelthorne, Spelthorne, in Surrey, England, including some areas within the London Borough of Hounslow. The town lies west of central London. David Lloyd (broadcaster)
David Lloyd (26 February 1961) is an English radio presenter and a former radio executive. Biography Lloyd began his radio career in December 1977 on Nottingham Hospitals' Radio, from which he had previously been turned away for being too young. He joined Radio Trent in 1980. At Trent, Lloyd presented the weekday afternoon show, and later, the mid-morning show, after Dale Winton left the station. Following a spell in junior management as presentation co-ordinator, he then moved to Leicester Sound as deputy programme controller in 1987 and subsequently as general manager. During this time, Lloyd also presented the weekday morning show and was its programme controller. In 1988, he oversaw the split of the FM and AM frequencies which saw Leicester Sound's AM signal switch to the new GEM AM service, and its FM signal remain as Leicester Sound, albeit under the name of 'Sound FM'. Classic Gold GEM
Solid Gold GEM AM (later Classic Gold GEM-AM) was an Independent Local Radio station, broadcasting to much of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Rutland and East Staffordshire from studios in Nottingham, and later Dunstable, Bedfordshire. The station ran as Solid Gold GEM AM until the mid-1990s when it was absorbed into the rest of the Classic Gold network, and was replaced on 3 August 2007 by a new network called simply Gold. The result of the merger of the Classic Gold and Capital Gold networks under one owner, GCap Media. GWR Radio
GWR FM was a network of three radio stations in the south west of England broadcasting to Bristol, Bath, Wiltshire and surrounding areas. All three stations were rebranded and joined the Heart Network on 23 March 2009. The stations in the network were: *GWR FM Bristol, which was launched in 1981 as Radio West. Century FM
Century Radio was the brand name of a group of Independent Local Radio stations in England. The brand was developed with the launch of 100-102 Century Radio in North East England in 1994, with John Myers as managing director and John Simons as programme director. The brand grew when Myers launched 106 Century FM for the East Midlands, and further when 105.4 Century Radio was launched in North West England in 1998. Ocean FM used the Century format, but not the brand. The group was initially owned by Border Radio Holdings until 2000, when Capital Radio Group took over the brand. When the larger GCap Media acquired the group in 2005, they were forced to sell the Nottingham-based "106" station to Chrysalis Group for competition reasons. Independent Broadcasting Authority
The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) was the regulatory body in the United Kingdom for commercial television ( ITV and Channel 4 and limited satellite television regulation – cable television was the responsibility of the Cable Authority) – and commercial and independent radio broadcasts. The IBA came into being when the Sound Broadcasting Act 1972 gave the Independent Television Authority responsibility for organising the new Independent Local Radio (ILR) stations. The Independent Television Commission formally replaced the IBA on 1 January 1991 in regulatory terms; however, the authority itself was not officially dissolved until 2003. Ram FM was an Independent Local Radio station, which broadcast to central and southern parts of Derbyshire on 102.8 FM. The station merged with two other East Midlands stations, Trent FM and Leicester Sound to form Capital FM East Midlands (part of Global's The Capital FM Network, Capital FM Network) on Monday 3 January 2011. History After a period of test transmissions, the station began life as "Radio Trent 945" at 6:00am on Tuesday 3 March 1987 on 102.8FM, also broadcasting on AM 945 kHz.
