John Padgett
John Padgett (21 November 1860 – 2 August 1943) was an English first-class cricketer, who played six matches for Yorkshire County Cricket Club between 1882 and 1889, and one match for Lord Hawke's XI in 1889. Life Born in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, Scarborough, Yorkshire, England, Padgett was a right-handed batsman, who scored 130 runs at 11.81, with a top score of 25 against M Sherwin's XI. He also took two catches in the field but did not bowl. After playing his early cricket with Scarborough Cricket Club (England), Scarborough Cricket Club, he was engaged at Milnrow Cricket Club, Milnrow C.C. for many years. Padgett died in August 1943, in Withington, Manchester, Lancashire. First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is of three or more days scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but the term was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the International Cricket Council, Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. Lord Hawke
Martin Bladen Hawke, 7th Baron Hawke (16 August 1860 – 10 October 1938), generally known as Lord Hawke, was an English amateur cricketer active from 1881 to 1911 who played for Yorkshire and England. He was born in Willingham by Stow, near Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, and died in Edinburgh. He appeared in 633 first-class matches, including five Test matches, as a righthanded batsman, scoring 16,749 runs with a highest score of 166 and held 209 catches. He scored 13 centuries and 69 half-centuries. Milnrow Cricket Club
Milnrow Cricket Club, based in Milnrow, an area of the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale, Greater Manchester, are an English cricket team who as of 2022 play in the Greater Manchester Cricket League (GMCL). The club is over 150 years old and celebrated its centenary in 1957 with the publication of a club history. The first professional player for the club was James Rigby, in 1884, but the club has never had a great deal of sporting success when compared to its local rivals. It was a founder member of the Central Lancashire League in 1892. In 2010 the club received a £57,000 grant from the England & Wales Cricket Board. Withington is a suburb of Manchester, England. Historically part of Lancashire, it lies from Manchester city centre, south of Fallowfield, north-east of Didsbury and east of Chorlton-cum-Hardy.
