John P. Metras
John Pius Metras (April 8, 1909 – April 13, 1982) was an American coach of Canadian football and basketball. He led Western Mustangs football from 1940 to 1969, winning 110 games, eight Yates Cups, and three Churchill Bowls. He coached 157 players who graduated to play in the Canadian Football League, including his son John. Metras was the first college coach inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, and is honored by the annual J. P. Metras Trophy for the outstanding U Sports lineman. Prior to coaching the Mustangs, he was a player-coach for St. Michael's College, and was named an all-American as captain of the Detroit Titans. As the athletic director at University of Western Ontario from 1945 to 1972, Metras also coached basketball and ice hockey. Berrien County is a county in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is located at the southwest corner of the state's Lower Peninsula, located on the shore of Lake Michigan and sharing a land border with Indiana. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 154,316. The county seat is St. Joseph. The Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is a principal department of the State of Michigan. It oversees the military components and veterans services for the State. The military components are the Michigan National Guard and Michigan Volunteer Defense Force (MI VDF). Center or centre (C) is a position in American football. The center is the innermost Lineman (American football), lineman of the offensive line on a football team's Offense (sports), offense who passes (or "Snap (gridiron football), snaps") the ball between his legs to the quarterback at the start of each Play from scrimmage, play. The Detroit Mercy Titans (formerly known as the Detroit Titans) are the athletic teams of University of Detroit Mercy. The university is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I. The school primarily competes in the Horizon League, but competes in other conferences for fencing and lacrosse, sports not sponsored for either men or women by the Horizon League. Fencing, a co-ed sport, competes in the Midwest Fencing Conference. Men's lacrosse moved from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference to the ASUN Conference in July 2021. The title is frequently honorary, but in some cases the captain may have significant responsibility for strategy and teamwork while the game is in progress on the field. A halfback (HB) is an Offense (sports), offensive position in American football, whose duties involve lining up in the offensive backfield and Carry (gridiron football), carrying the ball (gridiron football), ball on most rush (gridiron football), rushing American football plays, plays, i.e. a running back.
