John P. McLeod
John P. McLeod (died 1965) was an Australian writer and broadcaster. For a time he was an in-house screenwriter for F.W. Efftee Studios
Efftee Studios was an early Australian film and theatre production studio, established by F.W. Thring (the name 'Efftee' deriving from his initials, 'FT' for Francis Thring) in 1930. It existed until Thring's death in 1935. Initially Efftee Films was based in Melbourne and used optical sound equipment imported from the US. History In 1931, the company produced the first commercially viable Australian made sound feature film, ''Diggers''. Over the next five years, Efftee produced nine features, over 80 shorts and several stage productions, including the Australian musicals ''Collits' Inn'' (1933) and ''The Cedar Tree'' (1934). Notable collaborators include C. J. Dennis, George Wallace and Frank Harvey. In 1934, Thring suspended Efftee's operations to pressure the government to establish a quota for Australian films, threatening to move production to London. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is the national broadcaster of Australia. It is principally funded by direct grants from the Australian Government and is administered by a government-appointed board. The ABC is a publicly-owned body that is politically independent and fully accountable, with its charter enshrined in legislation, the ''Australian Broadcasting Corporation Act 1983''. ABC Commercial, a profit-making division of the corporation, also helps to generate funding for content provision. The ABC was established as the Australian Broadcasting Commission on 1 July 1932 by an act of federal parliament. A Ticket In Tatts (1934 Film)
''A Ticket in Tatts'' is a 1934 musical comedy film starring popular stage comedian George Wallace as an accident-prone stablehand. It was the last of three films Wallace made for F. W. Thring. Plot After being fired from his job at a grocer, George, gets a job as a stableboy at a local stud farm run by the Fleming family. He befriends the horse Hotspur who is a favourite to win the Melbourne Cup and develops a strong whistle that is used to make the horse run fast. Gangsters working for the villainous Coyle are determined to kidnap Hotspur but George figures it out and one is captured. To find out more information, George becomes a waiter at a cabaret where several ballet and vaudeville numbers are performed. ''Typhoon Treasure'' is a 1938 Australian adventure film directed by Noel Monkman and starring Campbell Copelin, Gwen Munro, and Joe Valli. It is set in New Guinea although shot on the Great Barrier Reef and the Queensland coast. It was Monkman's first dramatic feature film after several years making documentaries. Premise Alan Richards is the sole survivor of a pearling lugger which has been shipwrecked on Pakema Reef during a typhoon. Plot Two millionaire friends have plotted for years that their children, James and Elaine, should marry each other when they are of age, and when the plan is finally revealed they are amazed at the young people's reaction. Mutual misunderstandings lead to ridiculous complications. Adaptation Film rights to the novel were purchased in 1933 by F.W. Thring of Effee Productions. John P.
