John Cary Mykkanen (born September 8, 1966) is an American former competition swimmer who won the silver medal in the men's 400-meter freestyle event at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. The Universiade is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The name is a portmanteau of the words "University" and "Olympiad". The Universiade is referred to in English as the World University Games or World Student Games; however, this latter term can also refer to competitions for sub-University grades students.
