John Mutai (born 26 May 1966) is a Kenyan long distance runner. Career Mutai received much media attention following his three successive victories at the Belfast Marathon, including from the BBC, who called the victories a "hat-trick". Belfast Marathon
The Belfast City Marathon takes place in Belfast in Northern Ireland. The organisers describe it as the "largest mass sport participatory event in Northern Ireland" with between 15,000 and 18,000 participants taking part in several events. Great Capital Run
The Bupa Great Capital Run was a road race and fun run through the paths of Hyde Park, London (and later Regent's Park) which was established in 2007. It was one of the Great Run race series. The event started in 2007 as a 10k race in Hyde Park, sponsored by Bupa. This format continued in 2008 with a new event for 8-to-14-year-olds, a run allowing children to run in fancy dress. In 2009, the main race was reduced to 5k and moved to Regent's Park. This was the final Great Capital Run. Great North Run
The Great North Run (branded the Simplyhealth Great North Run for sponsorship purposes) is the largest half marathon in the world, taking place annually in North East England each September. Participants run between Newcastle upon Tyne and South Shields. The run was devised by former Olympic 10,000 m bronze medallist and BBC Sport commentator Brendan Foster. The first Great North Run was staged on 28 June 1981, when 12,000 runners participated. By 2011, the number of participants had risen to 54,000.
