John Mooney (activist)
John Mooney (born September 4, 1966) is a former vice-president of the Transport Workers Union of America, Transport Workers Union (TWU) Local 100, the union of New York City Transit Authority employees in New York City. Trade Union work Mooney explained that he had become a member of the TWU Executive Board by running an outside campaign and defeating the official candidate for that position. 2005 strike action Mooney champions the rights of the common man, accordingly he objected strenuously on December 22, 2005, when Local 100 led by Roger Toussaint declared an end to the three-day strike. Mooney was one of only 4 of the 42 members of the Executive Committee of Local 100 who voted to continue the strike. 1980 New York City Transit Strike
A 1980 transit strike in New York City halted service on the New York City Transit Authority (a subsidiary of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority) for the first time since 1966. Around 33,000 members of Transport Workers Union (TWU) Local 100 walked off their jobs on April 1, 1980, in a strike with the goal of increasing the wage for contracted workers. All subway and bus lines in the five boroughs of New York City were brought to a complete standstill for twelve days. The strike was resolved on April 11.
