John McClelland (doctor)
John McClelland or M'Clelland (1805 – 31 July 1883) was a British medical doctor with interests in natural history, who worked for the East India Company in India and Burma. He served as a temporary curator of the museum of the Asiatic Society of Bengal just before a permanent curator was found in Edward Blyth. McClelland is thought to have been born in Ireland, studied medicine and was admitted member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1828. He entered the service of the East India Company in the Bengal Medical Service on 7th April 1830. In 1835 he was sent on a mission (Tea Committee) to identify if tea could be grown in north-eastern India along with Nathaniel Wallich and William Griffith. This mission ran into troubles with the members of the group clashing with each other. McClelland was appointed 1836 as the secretary of the "Coal Committee", the forerunner of the Geological Survey of India (GSI), formed to explore possibilities to exploit Indian coal. John McClelland (footballer, Born 1935)
John Bonar McClelland (5 March 1935 – 15 June 2024) was an English professional footballer who scored 102 goals from 373 games playing in the Football League for Manchester City, Lincoln City, Queens Park Rangers, Portsmouth and Newport County. He played as an outside right. McClelland was born in Bradford, and began his professional football career with Manchester City. He joined Lincoln City in September 1958, in part exchange for George Hannah, and in his second season was the club's leading scorer with 18 goals. Queens Park Rangers paid £14,000 for his services at the start of the 1961–62 season. He stayed there two years before moving on to Portsmouth for £10,000, where he spent five years before finishing his career with Newport County in 1968–69. John McClelland (footballer, Born 1955)
John McClelland (born 7 December 1955) is a former Northern Ireland international footballer who played for several teams during a 23-year career. He worked for Leeds United as part of the tour groups for Elland Road. Club career McClelland played for Portadown, Cardiff City, Bangor City (he was Welsh Cup runner up with both of these clubs), and Mansfield Town, before signing for Rangers for £90,000 in June 1981. There he won two Scottish League Cup winner's medals, and was twice a Scottish Cup runner up. In November 1984 Watford paid £225,000 for his services. During his five years at Vicarage Road he was voted Watford Player of the Season twice. John McClelland (1766–1849) was an officer in the War of 1812. He was the son of American Revolutionary War officer Lieutenant-Colonel John B. McClelland, who was a casualty of Colonel Crawford's ill-fated Sandusky Expedition. Early life McClelland was born in September 1766 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania (later to become Bedford, afterward Westmoreland, and finally Fayette County) to Lt. Colonel John B. John Carman McClelland (September 22, 1951 – June 1, 2022) was a Canadian politician in Ontario. He was a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1987 to 1995 who represented the riding of Brampton North. He was subsequently an unsuccessful Progressive Conservative candidate in the 2007 provincial election. In July 2018, he announced candidacy for Ward 1 & 5 Regional councillor from Brampton in the 2018 municipal election.
