John Mathieson (surveyor)
John Mathieson (1855, Durness, Sutherland – 14 June 1945, Edinburgh) was a Scottish surveyor, cartographer, explorer and Gaelic scholar. In 1909, Mathieson retired from his post as Division Superintendent of HM Ordnance Survey in order to serve as chief surveyor on the Scottish scientific expedition to Svalbard, led by William Speirs Bruce. In 1920-21 he led the surveying party on Prins Karls Forland, largely completing Bruce's survey. On 7 March 1921 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, upon the nomination of John Horne, John Flett (geologist), John Flett, Thomas Jehu, Ben Peach, Robert Campbell (geologist), Robert Campbell and Thomas Cuthbert Day. In 1927 he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society and the Murchison Grant by the Royal Geographical Society. John Alexander Mathieson
John Alexander Mathieson (May 19, 1863 – January 7, 1947) was a politician and jurist of Prince Edward Island, Canada, and the 12th premier. Mathieson was born in Harrington and graduated from Prince of Wales College. He was a schoolmaster and lawyer before entering politics with his election to the province's legislature as a Conservative in 1900. He represented the district of 4th Kings in his first term in the legislature, then shifted to 5th Kings in 1904. Mathieson sat on the opposition benches, becoming Leader of the Opposition and of the Conservative Party in 1903. In December 1911, the Liberal government resigned when Premier H. James Palmer was defeated in a by-election which also caused the governing Liberals to lose their majority in the legislature. The Lieutenant-Governor of Prince Edward Island asked Mathieson as leader of the opposition to form a government, which he did, going on to win a mandate in the 1912 general election. John Mathieson (computer Scientist)
John Mathieson is a British computer chip designer who initially worked for Sinclair Research on the cancelled Loki computer project before co-founding Flare with ex-Sinclair colleagues Martin Brennan and Ben Cheese. After working at Flare on the ''Flare 1'' and its development into the Konix Multisystem, he worked for Atari Corporation developing the Atari Panther video game console. It was abandoned in favor of its successor, the Atari Jaguar. The Jaguar was commercially released in the United States on November 23, 1993. Mathieson has been called "the father of the Jaguar." After leaving Atari, Mathieson worked on the development of the ill-fated NUON media processor at VM Labs. John Mathieson (born 3 May 1961) is an English cinematographer and commercial director. He is one of a group of filmmakers who emerged from the music video industry of the late 1980s and 1990s. He is a frequent collaborator with director Ridley Scott, winning a BAFTA Award and a nomination for the Academy Award for his work on ''Gladiator'' (2000). Life and career Mathieson was born on Isle of Purbeck, Dorset, England. Beginning his career in the British film industry as camera assistant to Gabriel Beristain, Mathieson worked his way through the ranks. John Matheson
John Ross Matheson (14 November 1917 – 27 December 2013) was a Canadian politician, lawyer, and judge, who helped develop both the national flag of Canada and the Order of Canada. Early life John Matheson was born in Arundel, Quebec, the son of the Reverend Dr. A. Dawson Matheson and his wife, Gertrude Matheson (née McCuaig). Matheson underwent training at the Royal Military College of Canada in 1936. He graduated from Queen's University in 1940, winning the prestigious Tricolour Award in that year for distinguished achievement.
