John Martin (New Zealand Admiral)
Rear Admiral Alan John Ogilvie Martin, is a retired officer of the Royal New Zealand Navy, who served as Chief of Navy (New Zealand), Chief of the Navy from 30 November 2015 to 29 November 2018. Born in Dunedin, Martin joined the navy in 1979. He served as commander of the Royal New Zealand Navy Fleet as the Maritime Component Commander from March 2011 to September 2013. Martin was appointed Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) in the 1996 Birthday Honours (New Zealand), 1996 Queen's Birthday Honours. In the 2003 Birthday Honours (New Zealand), 2003 Queen's Birthday Honours, he was promoted to Officer of the same order. Rear Admiral David Colin Proctor (born ) is a retired officer in the Royal New Zealand Navy. He served as Chief of Navy from 2018 to 2024. Early life Born in Napier in , Proctor grew up in the suburb of Maraenui. He was educated at Colenso High School, where he was head boy in 1986. Of Māori descent, Proctor affiliates to Ngāti Korokī Kahukura. Career After leaving school, Proctor joined the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) in January 1987 as a midshipman. Deployments to the Solomon Islands and Timor-Leste followed. He spent most of his naval career in logistics roles. Proctor succeeded John Martin as Chief of Navy on 29 November 2018.
