John Malbon Thompson
John Malbon Thompson (24 December 1830 – 30 May 1908) was an Australian lawyer and politician, member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life Thompson was the son of John Thompson, sometime Deputy Surveyor-General for New South Wales, by his marriage with the daughter of Charles Windeyer. He was born in Sydney and educated at William Timothy Cape's Grammar School. Career Thompson was admitted an attorney and solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1855, and removing to Queensland, where he was admitted to the bar in June 1880, practised at Ipswich, Queensland, for which town he was returned to the Assembly in 1868. Whilst representing this constituency he was Chairman of Committees for two years, Secretary for Lands in the Arthur Palmer Ministry from May 1870 to July 1873, and Secretary for Public Works from the latter date till January 1874, when the Government retired. Electoral District Of Ipswich
Ipswich is a Legislative Assembly of Queensland electoral district on the Brisbane River, west of Brisbane in the Australian state of Queensland. The electorate includes Ipswich, Queensland, Ipswich and its suburbs, south and east of the Bremer River (Queensland), Bremer River, west of Bundamba Creek and north of the Cunningham Highway. History The electoral district of Town of Ipswich was one of the original 16 established in 1859, when Queensland became a separate colony. It returned 3 members. In the redistribution of 1872, its name was shortened to just "Ipswich" and it became a single member constituency, due to the creation of the electoral district of Bundamba. In the redistribution of 1878, it absorbed the electoral district of Bremer and became a dual-member constituency. Josiah Francis (7 March 1825 – 11 May 1891) was a miner and member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Francis was born at St Ann's Chapel, Cornwall, England, to father Joseph Youlten (1783–1832) and mother, Grace Nichols (1786–1852) was educated in St Ann's Chapel. Thomas McIlwraith
Sir Thomas McIlwraith (17 May 1835 – 17 July 1900) was for many years the dominant figure of colonial politics in Queensland. He was Premier of Queensland from 1879 to 1883, again in 1888, and for a third time in 1893. In common with most politicians of his era, McIlwraith was an influential businessman, who combined his parliamentary career with a prosperous involvement in the pastoral industry. Arthur Hunter Palmer
Sir Arthur Hunter Palmer (28 December 1819 – 20 March 1898) was an Australian politician who served as the fifth Premier of Queensland, in office from 1870 to 1874. He later held ministerial office in Thomas McIlwraith's ministry from 1879 to 1881, before serving as President of the Queensland Legislative Council from 1881 until his death in 1898. Early life Palmer was born in Armagh, Ireland, on 28 December 1819. He was the son of Lieutenant Arthur Palmer, Royal Navy, RN, and his wife, Emily ( Hunter).
