John M. Lee
John "Jack" Marshall Lee (born September 2, 1950) is an American mathematician and professor at the University of Washington specializing in differential geometry. Education Lee graduated from Princeton University with a bachelor's degree in 1972, then became a Systems programming, systems programmer (at Texas Instruments from 1972 to 1974 and at the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory in 1974–1975) and a teacher at Wooster School in Danbury, Connecticut in 1975–1977. He continued his studies at Tufts University in 1977–1978. He received his doctorate from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1982 under the direction of Richard Melrose with the dissertation ''Higher asymptotics of the complex Monge-Ampère equation and geometry of CR manifolds''. Richard Burt Melrose
Richard Burt Melrose is an Australian mathematician and professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who works on geometric analysis, partial differential equations, and differential geometry. Education Melrose received in 1974 his Ph.D. from Cambridge University under F. Gerard Friedlander with thesis ''Initial and Initial-Boundary Value Problems''. Career Melrose became a research fellow at St John's College, Cambridge. In 1977 he was a visiting scholar at the Institute for Advanced Study. Since 1976 he has been a professor at MIT, where since 2006 he has been the Simons Professor of Mathematics. From 1999 to 2002 he was the chair of the committee for pure mathematics at MIT. The Stefan Bergman Prize is a mathematics award, funded by the estate of the widow of mathematician Stefan Bergman and supported by the American Mathematical Society. The award is granted for mathematical research in: "1) the theory of the kernel function and its applications in real and complex analysis; or 2) function-theoretic methods in the theory of partial differential equations of elliptic type with attention to Bergman's operator method." Gregorio Ricci-Curbastro
Gregorio Ricci-Curbastro (; 12January 1925) was an Italian mathematician. He is most famous as the discoverer of tensor calculus. With his former student Tullio Levi-Civita, he wrote his most famous single publication, a pioneering work on the calculus of tensors, signing it as Gregorio Ricci. This appears to be the only time that Ricci-Curbastro used the shortened form of his name in a publication, and continues to cause confusion. Ricci-Curbastro also published important works in other fields, including a book on higher algebra and infinitesimal analysis, and papers on the theory of real numbers, an area in which he extended the research begun by Richard Dedekind.
