John Lund (racing Driver)
John Lund (born 12 January 1954) is a BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars racing driver from Rimington, Lancashire who races under number 53. Lund is one of the most successful stock car drivers of all time and holds the current record for the most World Championship wins. Biography Lund started racing in 1976, debuting at Rochdale on 28 March. He progressed to star grade in 1977, and to superstar in 1981. In 1985, Lund started racing two cars, one for shale ovals, one for tarmac. This helped catapult him to the very top of the sport. In 1987 Lund won his first major title, the British Championship. He completed a sweep of the top three major championships when he won the World Championship at Belle Vue Stadium and the National Points Championship in the same year, the third person to achieve this feat. Rimington
Rimington is a rural village and civil parish in the Ribble Valley, Lancashire, England. The population of the civil parish was 382 at the 2001 Census, however at the 2011 Census Middop was included with Rimington giving a total of 480. It is east of Clitheroe and south of the A59 road. BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars
BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars is a class of single-seater stock-car-racing in the UK with custom-built cars, with races conducted on walled oval tracks of either shale or tarmac of approximately a quarter-mile in length. The cars follow open wheel design principles, and there are no horsepower restrictions for the engines. Drivers may use any engine they choose, with Chevrolet based small or big block V8 engines being the most popular. BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars World Championship
The World Championship is an annual competition started in 1955 for BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars. It is the premier championship of the formula and the winner is granted the honour of racing with a gold roof and wing until the next World Final, and if desired they can race under number 1. Qualification The World Final is usually held in September. The host tracks, all of which are based in the UK, are decided by the BriSCA promoters. The grid for the World Final is mostly composed of drivers from the UK who are chosen through a series of qualifying rounds and two World Championship Semi-Finals. Drivers who fail to progress from the World Semi-Finals may race again in a Consolation Semi-Final to choose two more entrants, and the reigning World Champion is entitled to start at the rear of the grid if they have not already qualified. Belle Vue Stadium was a Greyhound racing in the United Kingdom, greyhound racing track in Belle Vue, Manchester, England, where the first race around an oval track in Britain was held on 24 July 1926. It has also been used for motorcycle speedway, as the home ground of the team Belle Vue Aces in 1928 and from 1988 until 2015, and from 1999 until 2019 for stock car racing and banger racing. Hednesford Hills Raceway (often referred to as Hednesford Raceway) is an oval, short-circuit motor racing venue. It is situated on Cannock Chase, approximately from the town of Hednesford, Staffordshire, England and is operated by Incarace Ltd. About the circuit The circuit was originally built inside a dis-used reservoir and operated by Claude Roe and Les Marshall in 1952, utilizing the site of a former reservoir, Scott House Reservoir, before opening for the first time in 1954. Due to failure in business, Roe and Marshall decided to abandon their plans for Hednesford Raceway and close down in 1955. Contact is allowed in UK stock car racing, that is, if you are unable to pass an opponent using speed alone, you are allowed to push or hit your opponent in order to pass.
