John Lovett (American Politician)
John Lovett (February 20, 1761 in Lisbon, Connecticut, Newent Society, New London County, Connecticut – August 12, 1818 in Fort Meigs, Wood County, Ohio) was an American politician from New York (state), New York. Life Lovett graduated from Yale College in 1782. He moved to Albany, New York, and thence to Fort Edward, New York, Fort Miller, where he was employed as general agent and land steward. Then he moved to Lansingburgh, New York, Lansingburgh. He was member from Rensselaer County, New York, Rensselaer County of the New York State Assembly in 1800-01. Afterwards he returned to Albany and was Clerk of the Common Council until the outbreak of the War of 1812 during which he was military secretary to Major General Stephen Van Rensselaer. Lovett was wounded at the Battle of Queenston Heights in October 1812, and returned to Albany. He was Clerk of Albany County from 1813 to 1815. Lisbon is a town in New London County, Connecticut, United States, by road northeast of Norwich. The town is part of the Southeastern Connecticut Planning Region. The population was 4,195 at the 2020 census. The town center is also known as the village of Newent. The town school is Lisbon Central School. Its only postal code, 06351, is Jewett City, Connecticut, which is a village of the town of Griswold, Connecticut and encompasses all of Lisbon and Griswold.
