John Kendrick (American Sea Captain)
John Kendrick (1740–1794) was an American sea captain during the American Revolutionary War, and was involved in the exploration and maritime fur trading of the Pacific Northwest alongside his subordinate Robert Gray. He was the leader of the first US expedition to the Pacific Northwest. He is known for his role in the 1789 Nootka Crisis, having been present at Nootka Sound when the Spanish naval officer José Esteban Martínez seized several British ships belonging to a commercial enterprise owned by a partnership of companies under John Meares and Richard Cadman Etches. This incident nearly led to war between Britain and Spain and became the subject of lengthy investigations and diplomatic inquiries. Kendrick was the first American to try to open trade with Japan. John Kenrick (MP)
John Kenrick (1735 – 18 September 1799) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons of Great Britain from 1780 to 1790. He was educated at Harrow, at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge and at the Middle Temple, where he was called to the bar in 1759, and became a bencher in 1792. He was Clerk of the Deliveries of the Ordnance between 1780 and 1783. He was elected at the 1780 general election as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the rotten borough of Bletchingley in Surrey. The previous year, he had purchased the succession rights to the manor and borough from his cousin Sir Robert Clayton, Bt, and Clayton again returned him for Bletchingley in 1784. John Kenrick (historian)
Reverend John Kenrick (4 February 1788 – 7 May 1877) was an English classical historian. Life He was born on 4 February 1788 at Exeter, the eldest son of Timothy Kenrick, Unitarian minister, and his first wife, Mary, daughter of John Waymouth of Exeter. He was educated at the local grammar school run by the Rev. Charles Lloyd (minister), Charles Lloyd and later at the nonconformist academy conducted by his father and the Rev. Joseph Bretland. In 1807, Kenrick matriculated at Glasgow University. He was the first prizeman in his class for three successive years, won the Gartmore gold medal for an essay on the English constitution in the Tudor period, and a silver medal for an essay on the aberration of light. He graduated MA in 1810. Later that year, Kenrick became classics tutor at Harris Manchester College, Oxford, Manchester College, York.
