John Kenneth McKenzie Pringle
John Kenneth McKenzie Pringle CBE OJ (October 4 1925-December 12, 2006) was an entrepreneur, Jamaican ambassador, advertising executive and founder of one of Jamaica's hotels Round Hill. Pringle was the youngest member of the Legislative Council of Jamaica when appointed aged 31. He was the first director of tourism serving between 1963 and 1967, where he tripled Jamaica's tourism revenues in four years. Pringle also served as chairman of the Jamaica Tourist Board and chairman of Jamaica's trade organization JAMCO where he championed Jamaica's interests in the banana industry. He served as the European Chairman of advertising agency DDB from 1967. He later became a film and television producer and in the 1990s went back to his routes as a hotelier, helping Chris Blackwell develop his hotels in Jamaica, including Strawberry Hill in Jamaica and The Tides in South Beach, Florida. Round Hill Hotel And Villas
The historic Round Hill Hotel and Villas resort near Montego Bay in Hopewell, Hanover, Jamaica opened in 1952. It is located on a peninsula and has entertained many celebrities and politicians including John F. Kennedy, Ralph Lauren, Paul Newman and Bob Hope. Ian Fleming was a frequent guest at Round Hill during his time in Jamaica. History Round Hill was conceived by John Pringle and Liz Pringle (nee Liz Benn) as a private haven for celebrities. Twenty-nine acres of the estate's land were set aside for the resort. Investors supplied money to build a hotel, and built their own cottages on the site. Shareholders have included Noël Coward, Adele Astaire, Bill Paley, Oscar Hammerstein, Francis H. McAdoo, and Clive Brook. Regular guests included Princess Margaret, Grace Kelly and Clark Gable. Christopher Percy Gordon Blackwell OJ (born 22 June 1937) is a Jamaican-British former record producer and the founder of Island Records, which has been called "one of Britain's great independent labels". According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, to which Blackwell was inducted in 2001, he is "the single person most responsible for turning the world on to reggae music." Strawberry Hill is a Jamaican hotel located in the Blue Mountains (Jamaica), Blue Mountains of Jamaica. It is owned by Chris Blackwell, a philanthropist and entertainment entrepreneur who founded Island Records, Palm Pictures and Island Outpost, a company that owns and operates his boutique hotels. Property History Strawberry Hill was named by its former owner Horace Walpole, 4th Earl of Orford, the son of Prime Minister Robert Walpole and cousin of Admiral Lord Nelson. The Order of Jamaica is the fifth of the six orders in the Jamaican honours system. The Order was established in 1969, and it is considered the equivalent of a knighthood in the British honours system.
