John Kane (actor)
John Kane (1746 in Ireland – 1799 in Buxton, Derbyshire) was an 18th-century actor and comedian of considerable distinction who died in 1799, with his death involving a poisonous plant, perhaps conium, hemlock or ''Aconitum''. Like the majority of his profession at the time, he moved around the country performing and spent a lot of his time in England. The playbill for the Buxton Theatre from 25 August 1792 shows that he was playing the 'Old Cockney' character in a farce called ''Romp''. It was while fulfilling an engagement at the Buxton Theatre that he died. According to popular folklore Kane had a large appetite and particularly enjoyed roast beef with horseradish sauce. In 1799 in Buxton, whoever prepared the dish for Kane had accidentally gathered ''Conium maculatum'' (the European species of hemlock) instead of wild horseradish. John Francis Kane (September 24, 1882 – January 28, 1934) was a professional baseball player who played outfielder in the Major Leagues from 1907 to 1910. He would play for the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds. Jack Kane
John Thomas Kane (23 July 1908 – 27 October 1988) was an Australian politician. Born in Burraga, New South Wales, he was educated at Catholic schools in Lithgow, after which he became a coalminer. He was vice-president of the Transport Workers' Union 1952–1956 and Assistant General Secretary of the New South Wales Labor Party 1952–1955. In 1955, he was expelled from the Labor Party together with many other members, joining with them to form the Australian Labor Party (Anti-Communist), which became the Democratic Labor Party (DLP). He was the NSW DLP General Secretary 1956–1971 and the Federal Secretary 1957–1971. In 1970, he was elected to the Australian Senate as a DLP Senator for New South Wales. Jonathan Ernest Kane (born 14 May 1973) is a British racing driver who has competed at various levels of motorsport. He currently drives for Strakka Racing in the Le Mans Series. Kane, who was born in Comber, Northern Ireland, began his career in karting and Formula Ford. In 1994 and 1995 he raced in Formula Vauxhall and Formula Opel where he was the 1994 British winter champion and the 1995 overall British champion. John Innes Kane (July 29, 1850 – February 1, 1913) was an American explorer, scientist and philanthropist who was prominent in New York Society during the Gilded Age. Early life Kane was born in 1850, one of eight children born to Oliver DeLancey Kane (1816–1874) and Louisa Dorothea (née Langdon) Kane (1821–1894). His siblings included Walter Langdon, DeLancey Astor Kane, Woodbury Kane, S. John Kane (born 8 June 1987) is a footballer who plays as a defender for Pollok. Kane came through the youth system at Hibernian. He made his Scottish Premier League debut at the age of 16 against Livingston in April 2004, coming on as a late substitute for Kevin Thomson. Although a Scotland Under–18 international, this was to be his only first-team appearance for Hibs, and he joined Motherwell in the January 2005 transfer window. After a spell at Partick Thistle, he briefly dropped to Junior level with Glenafton Athletic before signing for Stranraer in June 2007, under the management of former Motherwell team-mate Gerry Britton. A successful spell at the club saw him named player of the year two seasons running before leaving for the US and a year at Creighton University in Nebraska. John Kane is an American politician who has served as the Oklahoma House of Representatives member from the 11th district since November 16, 2022. Jock Kane
John Kane (7 April 1921 – 27 September 2013) was a Scottish whistleblower who was prevented from publishing two books alleging corruption at the British intelligence agency Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ). Kane served with the Royal Air Force in various European theatres as a radio operator in World War II, before joining GCHQ after the war. While serving with GCHQ in Hong Kong, Kane was concerned with the lack of security and after uncovering fraud, raised his complaints with officials. Kane retired in 1978 and his complaints were investigated by a senior civil servant, but the report was never published. Kane wrote a memoir in 1984, ''GCHQ: The Negative Asset'', which was subsequently banned, as was a second memoir, ''The Hidden Depths of Treachery'' (1987).
