Simply Red are an English soul and pop band formed in Manchester in 1985. Band leader, singer and songwriter Mick Hucknall was the only original member left by the time Simply Red initially disbanded in 2010. They have released thirteen studio albums, from ''Picture Book'' (1985) through ''Time'' (2023), all of which have peaked within the top ten on the UK Albums Chart; with the albums ''A New Flame'' (1989), ''Stars'' (1991), ''Life'' (1995) and ''Blue'' (1998), along with their ''Greatest Hits'' (1996) album, reaching number one. Their 1991 album ''Stars'' is one of the best-selling albums in the United Kingdom. Mick Hucknall
Michael James Hucknall (born 8 June 1960) is an English singer and songwriter. Hucknall achieved international fame in the 1980s as the lead singer and songwriter of the soul-influenced pop band Simply Red, with whom he enjoyed a 25-year career and sold over 50 million albums. Hucknall was described by Australian music magazine ''Rhythms'' as "one of the truly great blue-eyed soul singers", while '' Q'' credited him with "the most prodigious voice this side of Motown". Early life Hucknall, born at Saint Mary's Hospital, Manchester, on 8 June 1960, was an only child. His mother abandoned the family when he was three; the upheaval caused by this event inspired him to write " Holding Back the Years", which would become one of Simply Red's biggest and best-known hits. "Fairground" is a song by British soul and pop band Simply Red, released on 18 September 1995 by East West Records as the first single from the band's fifth album, ''Life (Simply Red album), Life'' (1995). Co-written and co-produced by frontman Mick Hucknall, the song makes extensive use of a sample of the Goodmen's 1993 hit "Give It Up (The Good Men song), Give It Up". It became Simply Red's first and only 1 single on the UK Singles Chart, staying at the top for four weeks in September and October 1995, and was a chart hit in mainland Europe and Australia, but it failed to generate long-term success in North America. "Sunrise" is a song by English musical group Simply Red. It was released on 17 March 2003 as the first single from their eighth studio album, ''Home'' (2003), as well as the first single from frontman Mick Hucknall's new record label, simplyred.com. Heavily based on Hall & Oates' 1981 song "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)", "Sunrise" peaked at number seven on the UK Singles Chart, number three in Canada, and number one on the US ''Billboard'' Dance Club Play chart. Content The song contains samples of Hall & Oates's 1981 hit "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)" and incorporates some of its lyrics. Reception David Jeffries of AllMusic panned the track, calling it the worst on its parent album. He added: "Hall & Oates get sampled and credited, but the vocal hook from Ace's " How Long" gets lifted without acknowledgment. "The Air That I Breathe" is a ballad written by the British-Gibraltarian singer-songwriter Albert Hammond and the English songwriter Mike Hazlewood. It was initially recorded by Hammond on his debut album, '' It Never Rains in Southern California'' (1972). After being covered by Phil Everly in 1973, it was a major hit for the Hollies in early 1974, reaching number two in the UK Singles Chart. It was the Hollies' last major hit. The Fugees () are an American hip hop group formed in South Orange, New Jersey, in 1990.
