John Iliopoulos
John (Jean) Iliopoulos (Greek language, Greek: Ιωάννης Ηλιόπουλος; 1940) is a Greeks, Greek physicist. He is the first person to present the Standard Model of particle physics in a single report. He is best known for his prediction of the charm quark with Sheldon Glashow and Luciano Maiani (the "Standard Model (mathematical formulation)#The GIM mechanism and the CKM matrix, GIM mechanism"). Iliopoulos is also known for demonstrating the cancellation of Anomaly (physics), anomalies in the Standard model. He is further known for the Fayet–Iliopoulos D-term formula, which was introduced in 1974. The Standard Model of particle physics is the Scientific theory, theory describing three of the four known fundamental forces (electromagnetism, electromagnetic, weak interaction, weak and strong interactions – excluding gravity) in the universe and classifying all known elementary particles. It was developed in stages throughout the latter half of the 20th century, through the work of many scientists worldwide, with the current formulation being finalized in the mid-1970s upon experimental confirmation of the existence of quarks. Claude Bouchiat
Claude Bouchiat (16 May 1932 – 25 November 2021) was a French physicist, and a member of the French Academy of sciences. Biography Graduate of the École Polytechnique in 1955. He completed a Ph.D. in 1960 titled ''La règle de sélection ΔT=0 dans les transitions de Fermi et la théorie de l'interaction vectorielle en radioactivité β''. Bouchiat was director of research at the CNRS in the theoretical physics laboratory of the École Normale Supérieure from 1971 to 2003. Claude was the disciple of Louis Michel and worked with him on the anomalous magnetic dipole moment of the muon. Bouchiat became an honorary research director in 2003. and Bouchiat supervised the doctorates of Joël Scherk and André Neveu at University of Paris XI in Orsay. This article describes the mathematics of the Standard Model of particle physics, a gauge quantum field theory containing the internal symmetries of the unitary product group . The theory is commonly viewed as describing the fundamental set of particles – the leptons, quarks, gauge bosons and the Higgs boson. The Standard Model is renormalizable and mathematically self-consistent; however, despite having huge and continued successes in providing experimental predictions, it does leave some unexplained phenomena. Luciano Maiani (born 16 July 1941) is a Sammarinese physicist. He is best known for his prediction of the charm quark with Sheldon Glashow and John Iliopoulos (the "GIM mechanism"). Academic history In 1964 Luciano Maiani received his degree in physics and he became a research associate at the Istituto Superiore di Sanità in Italy. During that same year he collaborated with Raoul Gatto's theoretical physics group at the University of Florence. He crossed the Atlantic in 1969 to do a post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard University's Lyman Laboratory of Physics. In 1976 Maiani became a professor of theoretical physics at the University of Rome, however he traveled widely during this period, holding visiting professorships at the École normale supérieure of Paris (1977) and CERN (1979–1980 and 1985–1986).
