John Hunt (rower)
John Atlee Hunt (27 February 1935 - 13 January 2005) was an Australian representative rower. Rowing (sport)
Rowing, sometimes called crew in the United States, is the sport of racing boats using oars. It differs from paddling sports in that rowing oars are attached to the boat using oarlocks, while paddles are not connected to the boat. Rowing is divided into two disciplines: sculling and sweep rowing. In sculling, each rower holds two oars—one in each hand, while in sweep rowing each rower holds one oar with both hands. There are several boat classes in which athletes may compete, ranging from single sculls, occupied by one person, to shells with eight rowers and a coxswain, called eights. King's Cup (rowing)
The King's Cup is Australia's blue riband annual rowing race for men. Since 1878 it has been contested by state representative senior heavyweight men's coxed eights at the annual Australian Interstate Regatta. Since 1973 the Australian Interstate Regatta has been conducted on the final day of the week-long annual Australian Rowing Championships. The King's Cup is the final event of the Australian Championships and the Interstate Regatta. Terry Davies (rower)
Terence Rodney Davies (18 October 1933 – 31 July 2022), better known as Terry Davies, was an Australian representative rower who competed at two Olympic Games. He raced at the 1960 Rome Olympics in the Men's coxless pair and the 1964 Tokyo Olympics in the Men's eight. He won a gold medal at the 1962 Perth Commonwealth Games in the Men's eight and represented in the Australian eight at the inaugural 1962 World Rowing Championships. Early life and rowing Davies was born in India where his father was a policeman. His family lived in Mumbai during WWII. Davies commenced his rowing at the University of Western Australia club in Perth in 1951. He raced in the Uni of WA senior eight at the 1953 and 1954 Intervarsity Championships. Davies made his sole state representative appearance for Western Australia in 1954 contesting the King's Cup at the Australian Interstate Regatta. Atlee Hunt
Atlee Arthur Hunt (7 November 186419 September 1935) was a senior official in the Australian Public Service. He was appointed Secretary of the Department of External Affairs in 1901, the year of Australia's Federation. Life and career Atlee Hunt was born in Fitzroy River, Queensland on 7 November 1864. He was educated at Balmain Public School and Sydney Grammar School. With alcoholic parents, he from an early age assumed effective responsibility for the household. Hunt began his career at the New South Wales Lands Department in 1879. To study for the Bar, Hunt resigned from the department in 1887. He was admitted to the Bar in 1892 and practiced until late 1900. It was at this time that he forged a rewarding bond with Edmund Barton.
