John Henderson (Australian Rules Footballer)
John Henderson (born 31 August 1938) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood in the VFL. Henderson played mostly as a centreman but was originally a half back. He was a premiership player with Collingwood in 1958 and a Victorian interstate representative. Although he never won a best and fairest he was Collingwood's top vote getter in the 1963 Brownlow Medal count, finishing 4th in the league. He was appointed captain of Collingwood for the 1965 season. After playing in the 1966 VFL Grand Final, which they lost to St Kilda by a point, Henderson left Collingwood and joined Yarraville in the VFA as coach. In 1972, Henderson coached local team Donvale United to a premiership in the ESCFA. The Avenel Football Club fields two football sides in the Seniors & Reserves divisions of the Kyabram and District Football League. The Club wear a predominantly white jumper with a red "V", like that of the old South Melbourne Football Club in the VFL. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an Australian rules football playing field, oval field, often a modified cricket ground. The Australian Football League (AFL) is the pre-eminent professional sports, professional competition of Australian rules football. Donvale Football Club
The Donvale Football Club is an Australian rules football club located in Donvale, Victoria. They presently play in Division 3 of the Eastern Football League. History The club was founded in 1971 as Donvale United and played in the Eastern Suburban Churches Football Association in the A Grade competition. All clubs had to be aligned to a church. Donvale won their first match on April 17, 1971, defeating Highfield Road by 59 points. They went on make the Grand Final, only to be defeated by Box Hill Pioneers in their first season. But they picked up their first premiership the next year avenging the 1971 loss - thanks to strong tackling, stamina and enthusiasm under the guidance of John Henderson, winning by 48 points. They repeated the performance against the same club in 1973 winning by 30 points thanks partly to inaccuracy by Pioneers. The Wodonga Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Bulldogs'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the city of Wodonga, Victoria. History Wodonga's first recorded match was against the Albury Football Club on Saturday, 6 July 1878 in Wodonga. Between 1878 and 1891, Wodonga played many intermittent friendly matches against other local club's and towns, before organised fixtures and competitions were starting to be arranged from the early 1890s. The Ovens and Murray Football Netball League (OMFNL or O&MFNL) is an Australian rules football and netball competition containing ten clubs based in north-eastern Victoria, Australia, Victoria, the southern Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia, New South Wales and the Ovens and Murray area. The name comes from the Ovens River, the river in the part of north-eastern Victoria covered by the league, and the Murray River, which separates Victoria and New South Wales.
