John Healy(Hurler)
John 'The Sock' Healy is an Irish hurling goalkeeper who plays with Ballyheigue and Kerry Gaelic Athletic Association teams. Healy has won 4 Kerry Senior Hurling Championships with Ballyheigue in 1992, 1996, 1997 and 2000. He was a member of the Kerry team who beat Waterford in the Munster Senior Hurling Championship in 1993. He won a National League Div 2 Medal with Kerry GAA in 2001 and played in losing finals in 2002 and 2006. Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. Ballyheigue Gaa
Ballyheigue GAA is a hurling and gaelic football club in north County Kerry, Ireland. The club competes at all levels of hurling at county and North Kerry and also plays some underage football as well as competing in the county junior football league and the county novice football shield. History The club was founded in 1892. The field, which is named after John Joe O'Sullivan, was purchased in the 1950s. Club rooms were later built in 1974. A new ball alley, dressing rooms and a meeting room were opened in 2006. Willie Leen is president of the club and a trustee of the club grounds since the grounds were first acquired; He put his farm up as collateral in the Bank in order to secure a loan to buy the field. Kerry Senior Hurling Championship
The Kerry Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as Garvey's SuperValu Senior Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Kerry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1889 for the top hurling teams in the county of Kerry in Ireland. The series of games are played during the summer months, with the county final currently being played in Austin Stack Park in August. Initially played a knock-out competition, the championship currently uses a double elimination format whereby each team is guaranteed at least two games. Ballyheigue ( ), officially Ballyheige ( - meaning ''Settlement of Tadhg'') is a coastal village in County Kerry, Ireland. It is approximately north of Tralee on the R551.
