John Berwick Harwood
John Berwick Harwood (1828 – 15 February 1899) was an English writer, best known for his ghost stories. He wrote many (usually anonymous) stories and articles, some of them about his experiences in China. He contributed short stories to '' Once A Week'', '' Cassell's Family Magazine'', '' Blackwood's Magazine'' and the ''Cornhill Magazine''. He wrote about twenty novels and several Christmas horror tales. He married Emily Mary Worsop Trollope in Ostend, Belgium, on 24 April 1850. John Harwood (watchmaker)
John Harwood (1893–1964) was a British watchmaker who invented a self-winding wristwatch. Early life Harwood was born in Bolton, Lancashire. During World War I he served as an armoury staff sergeant, developing an automatic pistol and a screwdriver whose blade turned on impact. Career After the war he served a watchmaking apprenticeship with Hirst Brothers and Co of Oldham. In 1922 he moved to the Isle of Man to set up his own watch repair business. In 1923, supported by a local businessman, he developed a self-winding wristwatch and applied for a patent in Switzerland, which was granted in September, 1924. His design ensured that the watch could be hermetically sealed against the ingress of water or dust. The hands could be reset by a rotating bezel. After four years, supported by funds from two Manchester brothers, Louis and Philip Alexander, he persuaded Swiss watch manufacturers Anton Schild S.A. and Walter Vogt of Fortis to manufacture the design. John Harwood (writer)
John Harwood (born 1946, Hobart, Tasmania) is an Australian poet, literary critic and novelist. Biography Educated at the University of Tasmania and Cambridge University, Harwood has worked as an academic at Flinders University in South Australia. He left Flinders University in 1997 to become a full-time writer. While he is better known for his writing on poetry, Harwood made an impact with his first novel, ''The Ghost Writer'', which was commended in literary awards in Australia and which was a winner of a major International Horror award. Harwood is the son of the poet Gwen Harwood. John Bryn Williams (born 1977), known as John B, is an English disc jockey and electronic music producer. He is widely recognised for his eccentric clothing, wild hair, and his production of several cutting edge drum and bass tracks. John B ranked number 76 in '' DJ Magazine''s 2010 Top 100 DJs annual poll, announced on 27 October 2010. Career Williams was born on 12 July 1977 in Maidenhead, Berkshire.
