John Harry Panabaker (31 July 1928 – 5 February 2023) was a Canadian insurance executive who served as the Chancellor of McMaster University from 1986 to 1992. Allan Leal
Herbert Allan Borden Leal, (June 15, 1917 – October 12, 1999) was a Canadian civil servant and academic. He was Deputy Attorney General of Ontario, dean of Osgoode Hall Law School, and chancellor of McMaster University. Born in Beloeil, Quebec, Leal received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1940 from McMaster University. A Rhodes Scholar from Ontario in 1940, he never took up the appointment due to the war. He served with the Royal Canadian Artillery during World War II in Canada, England, and the United States. He was discharged with the rank of captain. After the war, he attended Osgoode Hall Law School from 1945 to 1948. He received a Master of Laws degree from Harvard Law School in 1957. He was called to the Bar of Ontario 1948 and was created a Queen's Counsel in 1959. Leal practiced law from 1948 to 1950. In 1950, he became a lecturer at Osgoode Hall Law School. Preston, Ontario
Preston is a community in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada in the Regional Municipality of Waterloo, Ontario. Prior to 1973 it was an independent town, incorporated in 1915, but amalgamation with the town of Hespeler, Ontario, the city of Galt, Ontario and the village of Blair formed the new municipality of Cambridge. Parts of the surrounding townships were also included. No population data is available for the former Preston since the Census reports cover only the full area of Cambridge, though the combined population of the census tracts covering the majority of Preston reported a population of 20,008 as of the 2016 Canada Census. The Mutual Life Assurance Company of Canada was a Canadian insurance company that existed from 1868 to 2002. The company's articles of incorporation received royal assent in the Parliament of Ontario on 19 December 1868 as the Ontario Mutual Life Assurance Company. In 1900, it changed its name to the Mutual Life Assurance Company of Canada. At the end of the 20th century, Mutual Life was Canada's fourth largest insurance company. On 10 June 1999, shareholders voted to demutualise the company and to change its name to the Clarica Life Insurance Company. Clarica determined a valuation of CAD 865 million, and on 15 July 1999 made its initial public offering of 42.2 million shares valued at CAD 20.50 per. In December 2001, Sun Life made a CAD 7.1 billion offer to acquire Clarica.
