John G. Stackhouse Jr.
John Gordon Stackhouse Jr. (born 1960) is a Canadian scholar of religion. His scholarship has been supported by research grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the Association of Theological Schools, and the Canadian Embassy to the United States. Early life Stackhouse was born in 1960 in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, and raised in southwestern England and northern Ontario, the eldest of four children. His father, John G. Stackhouse, was a general surgeon. His mother, A. Yvonne (Annan) Stackhouse, was a schoolteacher and later university instructor. Stackhouse received his higher education in Canada and the United States: after a year at Mount Carmel Bible School in Edmonton, he received a BA in history from Queen's University, an MA in church history and theology from Wheaton College, and a PhD from the University of Chicago with a dissertation supervised by Martin E. Kingston is a city in Ontario, Canada, on the northeastern end of Lake Ontario. It is at the beginning of the St. Lawrence River and at the mouth of the Cataraqui River, the south end of the Rideau Canal.
