John G. Linvill
John G. Linvill (August 8, 1919 – February 19, 2011) was an American professor (emeritus) of Electrical engineering at Stanford University, known for his pioneering work in higher education, integrated circuits and semiconductors, and for development of the Optacon reading machine for the blind. Early life and education Linvill and his identical twin brother William Linvill, William went to the same universities. Linvill received his A.B. in mathematics in 1941 from William Jewell College, and his B.S., M.S., and Sc.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1943, 1945, and 1949 respectively. Career He worked at Bell Telephone Laboratories from 1951 to 1955, when he joined the Stanford Electrical Engineering department. In 1969 he was appointed head of the EE department, and in 1979 he became Director of the Center for Integrated Systems at Stanford. TechAmerica was an American technology trade association that was created in 2009, through the merger of several American trade associations including the AeA and Information Technology Association of America. The AeA (formerly the American Electronics Association) was a nationwide non-profit trade association that represented all segments of the technology industry. It lobbied governments at the state, federal, and international levels; provided access to capital and business opportunities; and offered select business services and networking programs. AEA Councils, in Tech Centers nationwide, began forming in 1977, after the Board of Directors approved the nationwide expansion. John Scott Award
John Scott Award, created in 1816 as the John Scott Legacy Medal and Premium, is presented to men and women whose inventions improved the "comfort, welfare, and happiness of human kind" in a significant way.
