John Flower (sheriff)
John Flower (1535–1620) was an English MP and Sheriff of Rutland. He was the eldest son of Richard Flower of Whitwell, Rutland and trained for the law at Lincoln's Inn. He was elected a Knight of the Shire (MP) for Rutland in 1563. He was appointed three time as High Sheriff of Rutland (in 1556–65, 1569–70 and 1577–78) and a Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for the county c. 1573–78. He married Margery, the daughter of Anthony Colly Anthony Colly (1502/3–1574), of Glaston, Rutland, was an English politician. He married Catherine, the daughter of William Skeffington, MP for Leicestershire, and they had three daughters. Maldon is a constituency in Essex represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2010 by Sir John Whittingdale, a Conservative. Constituency profile Maldon covers a rural area of Essex including the Dengie Peninsula. The main settlements are Maldon and Burnham-on-Crouch on the coast, and the new town of South Woodham Ferrers. The seat is slightly wealthier than the UK average. History The Parliamentary Borough of Maldon, which included the parish of Heybridge, had sent two members to Parliament since 1332 (36 years after the Model Parliament). John Flower (1624 – 1658) was a nonconformist theologian and the son of William Flower of Cubley, Derbyshire. He became a commoner of New Inn Hall, now St Peter's College, Oxford, in Act term 1640. John Flower (artist)
John Flower (14 Oct 1793 – 29 Nov 1861) was an English landscape and architectural artist known to locals as "the Leicester artist". Flower was born in Leicester, the son of John Flower, a wool comber, and his wife Mary, whose family had for generations owned the Castle Mill on the River Soar. The family became reduced in circumstances after the early death of his father and in 1806 he was apprenticed to a framework knitter, Benjamin Withers. However, Flower's talent for drawing was noticed by a local doctor who gave him art lessons, and he was eventually taken under the wing of Mary Linwood (a local schoolmistress and celebrated seamstress) who arranged for him to study art in London with Peter de Wint for a year. On returning to Leicester he became a professional art teacher and landscape artist. John Beresford Fowler
John Beresford Fowler (20 June 1906 – 27 October 1977) was an English interior designer. Early life Fowler was born in Lingfield, Surrey, son of Robert Richard Fowler, clerk of the course at the fashionable Lingfield Park Racecourse, and Blanche Beresford, née Forster. He moved with his family to Bedford Park, London following his father's death in 1915. He was educated Tormore prep school, and at Felsted School. He left school aged 16 in 1923. Career He joined the decorating and antiques firm Thornton Smith, where he painted Chinese-style wallpaper (sold as 18th century originals), and learned other paint decoration techniques, such as marbling and graining. He moved to work in the studio of decorator Margaret Kunzer, and started to decorate furniture for Peter Jones.
