John Joseph Flanagan (sometimes spelled ''Flannigan''; January 28, 1868 – June 3, 1938) was an Irish-American three-time Olympic gold medalist in the hammer throw, winning in 1900, 1904, and 1908. Biography John Flanagan was born in the townland of Ballinvreena and raised in Kilbreedy East, near Martinstown in County Limerick, Ireland. John was the first son of Ellen Kinkead and Michael Flanagan (married Feb 1867), then a farm steward for the Gabbett's of Kilmallock. As was often the case in those times his mother Ellen went home to her birth family, the Kinkeads of Ballinvreena, to have her first child. He became the British hammer throw champion after winning the AAA Championships title at the 1896 AAA Championships. He emigrated to the United States of America in 1896. John Flanagan (swimmer)
John Flanagan (born July 17, 1975, in Honolulu) is a male freestyle swimmer from the United States who specialized in middle distance and Open water distance events. He swam for Honolulu's exceptional Punhou School Swim Team where he was a three-time state champion in the 200 and 500-meter freestyle. After swimming for Auburn University, he won a 5 Km gold team medal at the 1998 World Aquatics Championships in Perth, Australia. He competed in and placed well in a number of USA Swimming National Championships through 2001, winning a 10 Km event at Daytona Beach in 2001, and receiving several second places in 5 Km events. In 2000, he won Hawaii's Surf and Sea North Shore Challenge, and was a five-time winner of the Waikiki Roughwater Challenge. In July 2010, he placed fourth in the 10 Km swim at the World Competitions in Fukuoka, Japan with a time of 2:01:6.5. He would later compete professionally in triathlon and in 2001 work as a swim coach at Kamehameha Swim Club in Honolulu. ...

John Flanagan (1947 – 9 September 1994) was an Irish hurler. At club level, he played with Moycarkey–Borris and at inter-county level with the Tipperary senior hurling team. Career Flanagan played hurling at all levels as a student at Thurles CBS. He began his club career with Moycarkey–Borris at juvenile and underage levels, before progressing to adult level in 1964. Flanagan won the first of five Mid Tipperary SHC medals the following year. He won a Tipperary SHC medal after Moycarkey's 2-12 to 0-11 win over Roscrea in a final replay in 1982. Flanagan subsequently claimed a Munster Club SHC medal that year, before winning a second Tipperary SHC medal in 1984. At inter-county level, Flanagan first played for Tipperary during a two-year tenure with the minor team. He later spent three consecutive years with the under-21 team and won an All-Ireland U21HC medal after a 1-08 to 1-07 win over Dublin in the 1967 All-Ireland under-21 final. John Anthony Flanagan (born 22 May 1944) is an Australian fantasy author best known for his medieval fantasy series, the ''Ranger's Apprentice'' series, and its sister series, the ''Brotherband, Brotherband Chronicles.'' Some of his other works include his ''Storm Peak'' duology, as well as the adult novel ''The Grey Raider.'' Early life and careers John Flanagan was born in Sydney, Australia on 22 May 1944.
