Jock Fairbairn
John Fairbairn (3 March 1871 – 23 October 1966) was a Scottish footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Heart of Midlothian in the late 19th century. He won the Scottish Cup with the club in 1891 (their first major trophy and the first time the competition had been won by a team from the Scottish capital) and 1896 (an Edinburgh derby victory over Hibernian), and was a Scottish Football League title winner in 1896–97, playing in all 18 fixtures (he made only three appearances when they were champions two seasons earlier, William Cox taking over). His last game for Hearts was in 1898 but he is reported to have signed for Abercorn in 1903, though no appearances were recorded for him with the Paisley club so it is likely he was registered as an experienced backup player for a potential goalkeeping emergency which did not come to pass.

John Fairbairn (9 April 1794 – 5 October 1864) was a newspaper proprietor, educator, financier and politician of the Cape Colony. According to the Standard Encyclopaedia of Southern Africa, "The embryo of the State education system we know today, trial by jury, the principle of the mutual life assurance company – all these were fruits of his endeavours at the Cape". Early life John Fairbairn was born in Carolside Mill in the Parish of Legerwood, Berwickshire, Scotland on 9 April 1794, the son of James Fairbairn and Agnes Brack, who married at Lauder, Berwickshire 20 March 1783, James living in the Parish of Westruther, Berwickshire at the time. John Fairbairn (naval Officer)
Commodore John Fairbairn (12 March 1912 – 20 March 1984) was a South African Naval officer. Fairbairn was born in Plumstead, Cape Town. After being educated at Diocesan College in Rondebosch, he started working at the Standard Bank in 1930. He joined the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve (RNVR) on 1 July 1929 on a part-time basis while still working at the bank until the start of World War II, when he signed up to the South African Navy full-time on 4 September 1939 and was promoted to lieutenant on 12 November the same year. On 1 May 1946, he joined the SA Navy Permanent Force and was given the rank of lieutenant-commander. On 4 January 1948 while in command of the HMSAS ''Transvaal'', the Marion and Prince Edward islands were annexed from Great Britain. He commanded the SAS ''President Steyn'' before being appointed naval officer in charge (NoiC) of the Simon's Town Naval Base.
