John F. Long
John F. Long (17 May 192029 February 2008) was a real-estate developer, philanthropist, and late-date pioneer of the West Valley of the Phoenix metropolitan area. He is most often remembered for being the founder and primary developer of Maryvale, an urban village spanning Phoenix and Glendale. He is often considered the “Father of the West Valley.” Early life John Frederick Pilger was born on May 17, 1920, in Phoenix, Arizona to German immigrant parents. His parents moved to Arizona in the early 1900s, his father moved under doctor's order due to his tuberculosis, and already had an uncle living in Phoenix. His father would die when he was just 22 months old, leading him to never really know his father. When his mother remarried, John took his stepfather's surname name, Long. Phoenix Union High School
Phoenix Union High School (PUHS) was a high school that was part of the Phoenix Union High School District in downtown Phoenix, Arizona, one of five high school-only school districts in the Phoenix area. Founded in 1895 and closed in 1992, the school consisted of numerous buildings on a campus which by 1928 consisted of 18 acres. In 1982, the majority of the campus was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Phoenix Union High School Historic District With The PUHS campus was included in the Phoenix Historic Property Register in 1986, and received landmark designation in 2003. A VA loan is a mortgage loan in the United States guaranteed by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Moon Valley is a neighborhood of approximately 1,600 homes located in the northern part of Phoenix, Arizona. The neighborhood, which comprises 29 separate subdivisions, was established in the early 1960s and is centered on the Moon Valley Country Club, a private country club. Maryvale Mall, originally known as Maryvale Shopping City, was a shopping mall in the Maryvale area of Phoenix, Arizona that, for a time, was the biggest shopping mall between Dallas, Texas and the West Coast.
