John Elder F.C.
John Elder Football Club was a Scottish association football club based in Govan, now part of Glasgow. It was the football side for workers with the John Elder & Co. shipbuilding company. History The club was founded in 1876, and had enough players for two XIs in its first season. The club joined the Scottish Football Association in time to enter the 1877-78 Scottish Cup. It went through to the second round after two draws with Rovers, which meant that, under the competition rules, both sides progressed, but lost 1–0 at Govan in the second. John Elder reached the third round of the competition in the next two seasons. In the first round of the 1878–79 Scottish Cup, the club earned its biggest competitive win, 7–0 away at Blackfriars, and beat Stonefield at Dalmarnock Park in the second, the club's secretary Pringle scoring a brace. 1879–80 Scottish Cup
The 1879–80 Scottish Cup – officially the Scottish Football Association Challenge Cup – was the seventh season of Scotland's most prestigious football knockout competition. With 142 entrants, this season saw the largest number of teams to compete for the trophy since its inception. Three-time defending champions Vale of Leven lost their first match in the competition for four seasons when they were knocked out in the first round, losing 4–3 to rivals Dumbarton. Queen's Park regained the trophy as they won the competition for the fourth time after beating Thornliebank 3–0 in the final on 21 February 1880. Scottish Junior Cup
The Scottish Junior Cup is an annual football competition organised by the Scottish Junior Football Association. The competition has been held every year since the inception of the SJFA in 1886 and, as of the 2022–23 edition, 108 teams compete in the tournament. The cup has an unseeded knockout format with semi-finals over two legs and the final played at a neutral venue, always that of an SPFL club. Since the 2006–07 season, the winner of the Junior Cup Final has qualified for the following season's senior Scottish Cup. The competition is named the Macron Scottish Cup for sponsorship reasons. Auchinleck Talbot are the current holders, after defeating Yoker Athletic 2–0 on 4 June 2022 at Rugby Park, Kilmarnock. The 1881–82 Scottish Cup – officially the Scottish Football Association Challenge Cup – was the ninth season of Scotland's most prestigious football knockout competition. A total of 147 teams entered the competition, five more than the previous record set in 1879–80. For the second season in a row, defending champions Queen's Park played Dumbarton in the final.
