John Edwards (1760–98) was the eighth intendant (mayor) of Charleston, South Carolina Charleston is the largest city in the U.S. state of South Carolina, the county seat of Charleston County, and the principal city in the Charleston–North Charleston metropolitan area. He served as an aide-de-camp to Francis Marion during the Revolutionary War and married Rebecca Donnom in 1783. Edwards was elected from the Charleston area to the General Assembly for 1787–1788, but he resigned his position when he was appointed Commissioner of the South Carolina Treasury. For 1791 to 1794, he was again elected to the General Assembly. Edwards was elected intendant September 26, 1795, and was re-elected September 12, 1796. John Bee Holmes
John Bee Holmes was the seventh intendant (mayor) of Charleston, South Carolina, serving one term between 1794 and 1795. Holmes born in 1760 to Isaac Holmes and Rebecca Bee. During the Revolutionary War, he was the aide-de-camp to General John Barnwell. He married Elizabeth Edwards in 1783 and was admitted to practice law the same year. He owned Washington Plantation on the Cooper River in St. John's Parish (Berkeley County). Holmes was elected intendant in September 1794. He resigned in September 1795 and was followed in office by his brother-in-law, John Edwards. He also held state office, representing the Charleston area in the General Assembly of South Carolina from 1791 to 1797. He served in the South Carolina Senate from 1799 to 1801. He died on September 5, 1827, and is buried at the Circular Congregational churchyard in Charleston. Henry William De Saussure
Henry William de Saussure (August 16, 1763 – March 26, 1839) was an American lawyer, state legislator and jurist from South Carolina who became a political leader as a member of the Federalist Party following the Revolutionary War. He was appointed by President George Washington as the 2nd Director of the United States Mint, was a co-sponsor of the legislation that established the South Carolina College which was to become the University of South Carolina and was given the title of Chancellor as a justice of the SC Equity Court, also known as chancery court. In this capacity he wrote and codified much of the state's equity law still in use today. He served as Intendant (Mayor) of Charleston while his son, William Ford de Saussure, likewise, served as Intendant (Mayor) of Columbia, SC.
