John Dupuis Cobbold
John Dupuis Cobbold (11 March 1861, Ipswich – 12 June 1929, Ipswich) was a member of the Ipswich-based Cobbold family in England. John was born at The Cliff, Ipswich. He was the son of John Patteson Cobbold and Adele Harriette Dupuis, daughter of George Dupuis, vice-provost of Eton College, where he was educated from 1874 to 1879. Here he played Rackets, winning several school contests and becoming Keeper of Rackets for 1878–79. On 24 August 1897 he presented the Racecourse Recreation Ground to the Ipswich Borough. He was appointed High Sheriff of Suffolk in 1901 and was Mayor of Ipswich, 1914–15. He joined Ipswich Fine Art Club in 1913 and remained a member until 1928 despite not exhibiting. Trimley St Martin
Trimley St. Martin is a village and civil parish in the East Suffolk district, in the county of Suffolk, England. It lies between the rivers Orwell and the Deben, on the long narrow tongue of land from Ipswich to Felixstowe referred to as the Colneis Hundred. In 2011 the parish had a population of 1942. The village, and its neighbour Trimley St. Mary, are famous for their adjacent churches, which were built as the result of a historical family feud. St. Martin's church is the northerly church (at ). History Archaeological findings in the Hams Farm area show evidence of prehistoric, Roman, Anglo-Saxon and late post-medieval workings, including fired flints and a number of Central Gaulish Samian ware pieces. In nearby Walton, recent archaeological findings show evidence of Bronze Age field systems in use. Holywells Park, Ipswich
Holywells Park is a public park in Ipswich, England situated between Nacton Road and Cliff Lane, near to the Ipswich Waterfront. History Tools from the stone age have been found on the site, as well as bronze age axes and Roman coins. In the 13th century Holywells was part of the Manor at Bishops Wyke which was held by the Bishops of Norwich. During the reign of Henry VIII the Manor was returned to the crown and then granted to Sir John Jermy. The land was bought by John Cobbold in 1812 who brought his wife Elizabeth Cobbold and their large family here to live in 1814. Cobbold later began using the areas natural springs to produce beer. In 1814 Holywells House was completed on the site of an old farmhouse (this building was demolished in 1962 due to wood rot and only the stable block remains). The estate was sold to Lord Woodbridge in 1930. He presented the estate to the people of Ipswich in 1935 and it was opened to the public by Ipswich Corporation in on 30 May 1936. The ... Ipswich Art Society is an exhibiting organisation for painters, sculptors and printmakers, based in Ipswich, Suffolk. It was founded as the Ipswich Fine Art Club in 1874. It changed its name to Ipswich Art Club in 1925 and in 1993 to Ipswich Art Society. Foundation as Ipswich Fine Art Club Ipswich Fine Art Club was founded on Tuesday 24 November 1874 at Ipswich Museum. Alderman Edward Packard was the main force behind it, with support from Rev Henry Cruso, of Bramford. The painter, John Duvall, was the first chairperson. This is a list of Sheriffs and High Sheriffs of Suffolk. The Sheriff is the oldest secular office under the Crown and is appointed annually (in March) by the Crown. The Sheriff was originally the principal law enforcement officer in the county and presided at the Assizes and other important county meetings. Most of the responsibilities associated with the post have been transferred elsewhere or are now defunct, so that its functions are now largely ceremonial. Cobbold Family
The Cobbold family became influential in Ipswich and Suffolk in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The family is best known for brewing, moving its operations from Harwich to Ipswich in 1746, and as the driving force behind Ipswich Town Football Club, both as an amateur and professional team. During its Victorian era, Victorian heyday, the family also had interests in coal, shipping, the railways and banking. The Ipswich Racecourse is an area of Ipswich in Suffolk, England, that was formerly a racecourse from 1710 to 1911. The racecourse 1710–1911 The course was on what was part of the then Nacton Heath which at the time was just east of Ipswich, now in Priory Heath Ward, Ipswich. It was 1 mile and 7 furlongs in circumference and ran along the line of the modern Lindberg Road, Cobham Road, parallel to Felixstowe Road as far the modern Hatfield Road before a six furlong finish straight running parallel to Nacton Road to complete the loop. The earliest mention of annual race meetings in Ipswich was 1710 when a Town Purse was run for by "high mettled racers".
