John Donnelly (Australian Politician)
John Burton Donnelly (10 May 1885 - 30 June 1956) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Donnelly was born at Ipswich, Queensland, the son of the John Donnelly and his wife Louise Bridget (née Lachetelle). He joined the First Australian Imperial Force at the start of World War I and served with the 2nd Light Horse Brigade in Gallipoli where he was wounded. He then joined the Camel Corps and was stationed in Palestine before finally joining the AAMC and working in the dental services. He returned to Australia in December 1918 with the rank of Captain having lost a brother to fighting in April of the previous year. After the war he continued his work as a dentist. In 1918 he married Eileen Cecelia Crance. He then married Bridget Theresa McIntosh in 1946. Donnelly died in 1956 and was buried in the Hemmant Cemetery.Deceased Search ... John Aiden Donnelly (born 1952), Garda Síochána 20051D and recipient of the Scott Medal. Background Donnelly is a native of Ballinasloe, County Galway. He had worked as a bus conductor prior to joining the force in 1975. Incident at supermarket ''"Garda Donnelly was off duty and accompanied by his two-year-old daughter on the evening of 26 January 1989. he arrived at the supermarket in his own car just as three armed raiders were leaving the store. Garda Donnelly moved his car so as to block the raiders' getaway vehicle. The gunmen then fired a shot at his car window and tried to hijack the car. Garda Donnelly steadfastly refused to given them his car keys, forcing the raiders to flee from the scene on foot. One of them was eventually arrested and received a prison sentence for the robbery."'' John "Dallas" Donnelly (3 September 1954 – 22 February 1986) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s. An Australian Kangaroos and New South Wales Blues representative, he played for Western Suburbs between 1975 and 1984 in the New South Wales Rugby League premiership. Playing career Donnelly who was also commonly known by his nickname "Dallas", referring to his size, came from the New South Wales country town of Gunnedah, representing New South Wales and winning the award for ''country player of the year'' in 1973. He moved to Sydney's Western Suburbs club in 1975 and quickly gained a reputation that grew to almost cult status for his fiery on-field play as well as his off-field larrikin persona. With Wests, Donnelly formed part of one of the most dominant forward packs in Australian Rugby League history under coach Roy Masters in the late 1970s, earning test selection for Australia in 1978 against New Zealand. John Donnelly is an Irish farmer who was President of the Irish Farmers' Association, 1994–1998. A native of Abbey, County Galway, Donnelly was born in the townland of Conicare. He was educated at the local national school and for one term at St. Molaisses College, Portumna. He became a member of Macra na Feirme Macra na Feirme (; officially meaning "Stalwarts of the land") is an Irish voluntary rural youth organisation.
