John Denis Browne
John Denis Browne (1798 – 21 May 1862) was an Irish politician. The fourth son of Denis Browne, John lived at Mount Browne in County Mayo, and was related to the Marquess of Sligo. He stood in the 1831 UK general election in County Mayo County Mayo (; ) is a Counties of Ireland, county in Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Denis Browne (politician)
Denis Browne (1763 – 14 August 1828) was an Irish politician, landowner and High Sheriff who was notorious for his role in punishing rebels in the 1798 rebellion. He acquired the nickname "''Denis the Rope"'' or "''Donochadli an Rópa''" in Irish. This was owing to his zeal in hanging suspected rebels, in addition to assisting in hanging his own godson. Life Browne was the second son of two sons and four daughters born to Peter Browne, 2nd Earl of Altamont and Elizabeth Kelly of Lisduffe, County Galway. He was born and raised at the family home of Westport House, County Mayo. He was a direct descendant of the pirate, Grace O'Malley (c.1530-c.1603). The Browne Family being one of the ancient Tribes of Galway and had been originally Catholic before conversion to the Church of Ireland. The 1835 United Kingdom general election was called when Parliament of the United Kingdom, Parliament was dissolved on 29 December 1834. Polling took place between 6 January and 6 February 1835, and the results saw Robert Peel's Conservative Party (UK), Conservatives make large gains from their low of the 1832 United Kingdom general election, 1832 election, but the Whigs (British political party), Whigs maintained a large majority. Under the terms of the Lichfield House Compact the Whigs had entered into an electoral pact with the Irish Repeal Association of Daniel O'Connell, which had contested the previous election as a separate party. James Browne (15 June 1793 – 23 December 1854) was an Irish politician who was the son of Hon. Denis Browne, MP for County Mayo in 1801 and brother of Peter Browne, MP. He succeeded his father in the year 1828 and was elected in 1818 as Member of Parliament for Mayo, and held the seat until 1831. James Browne married twice. His first wife being Eleanor Catherine, the daughter of John Wells of Bickley, Kent and his second wife being Elizabeth, the daughter of John David Puget, a banker of Totteridge, Hertfordshire. Dominick Browne, 1st Baron Oranmore and Browne Privy Council of Ireland, PC (28 May 1787 – 30 January 1860), was an Irish people, Irish politician. Browne was the son of Dominick Geoffrey Browne and his wife Margaret. She was the daughter of the Hon. George Browne, 4th son of John, 1st Marquess of Sligo#Earls of Altamont, Earl of Altamont. He sat as Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament for County Mayo (UK Parliament constituency), County Mayo from 1814 to 1826 and from 1830 to 1836 and was admitted to the Irish Privy Council in 1834. In 1836 he was raised to the Peerage of Ireland as Baron Oranmore and Browne, of Carrabrowne Castle in the County of the Town of Galway and of Castle Macgarret in the County of Mayo. Lord Oranmore and Browne married Catherine Anne Isabella, daughter of Henry Monck, in 1811.
