John Deane (Australian Politician)
John Horace Deane (1842–1913) was a politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly and a Member of the Queensland Legislative Council. Politics John Deane was a member of the Dalrymple Shire Council from 1880 to 1889 and from 1891 to 1911. During that period, he was chairman of the Council from 1880 to 1884 and again in 1890. Deane was elected to the Queensland Legislative Assembly in the electoral district of Townsville in the 1878 election on 28 November 1878 as a supporter of Thomas McIlwraith. He never spoke in parliament and resigned on 3 February 1879, standing aside to allow John Murtagh Macrossan (who had already been appointed Minister for Works and Mines in the McIlwraith Ministry) to win the resulting by-election on 4 March 1879. John Deane (inventor)
John Deane (1800–1884; known as The ''Infernal Diver''), with his brother Charles, invented the diving helmet and performed diving operations at the wreck of the ''Mary Rose''. They received their education at The Royal Hospital School, Greenwich and were both in attendance in 1812. When he was 14, John joined the East India Company and sailed for seven years. In the 1820s, John was present in England when horses were trapped by fire in a stable. To get through the smoke and fire fumes he put on a medieval knight-in-armour helmet air-pumped by hose from a fire brigade water pump and rescued all the horses. In 1823, he patented a "Smoke Helmet" to be used by firemen in smoke-filled areas; the full title is given as ''"Apparatus or Machines to be worn by Persons entering Rooms or other places filled with Smoke of other Vapour, for the purpose of extinguishing Fire, or extricating Persons or Property therein"''. Sir John Deane (1583 – 17 February 1626) of Dyne's Hall in the parish of Great Maplestead in Essex, was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons of England, House of Commons from 1621 to 1622. Origins Deane was the only son of William Deane (d. 1585) of Dyne's Hall, Great Maplestead, Essex, by his second wife Anne Egerton, a daughter of Thomas Egerton of London, merchant, and widow of George Blyth (MP), George Blyth, MP (d. 1581), Secretary to the Council of the North. John Deane (sailor)
Captain John Deane (1679 – 1761) was an English sailor with a long career in the Royal Navy and Russian Navy. He rose to the rank of captain in the Royal Navy, commanding in the Capture of Gibraltar. Deane later commanded a trading vessel, the ''Nottingham Galley'', shipwrecked on Boon Island in 1710. Deane spent 1714–1721 in service with the Tsar Peter the Great commanding a Russian naval ship. He then worked in Flanders as British Consul to the Port of Ostend until 1736, when he retired to his native Wilford, Nottingham. He died in 1761 from injuries in a violent assault. His wife died on the next day. The many accounts of his life include that of William Henry Giles Kingston, who confirms that Deane "really existed", and Richard H. Warner. John Bathurst Deane (27 August 1797 – 12 July 1887) was a South African-born English clergyman, schoolmaster, antiquary, and author. Early life and education Born at the Cape of Good Hope in 1797, Deane was the second son of Captain Charles Meredith Deane, of the 24th Light Dragoons. According to research undertaken by Deane and posthumously completed and published by his daughter Mary as ''The Book of Dene, Deane, Adeane: a genealogical history from Norman times of the families originating in Northamptonshire and the Forest of Dean'', the family claimed to be descended from a Norman royal cup-bearer, Roberto de Dena. John R. (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 - February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. Richbourg was arguably the most popular and charismatic of the four announcers at WLAC who showcased popular African-American music in nightly programs from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. (The other three were Gene Nobles, Herman Grizzard, and Bill "Hoss" Allen.)
