John Christ
John Christ (born John Wolfgang Knoll on February 19, 1965) is an American musician best known as the original guitarist for the metal band Danzig. He has been known for his bluesy hard rock sound and frequent use of the pinch harmonic. Christ was ranked 63rd in ''Guitar World's'' list of 'The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists'. Early life Christ was born the youngest of five children, with four older sisters. Christ first started playing acoustic guitar when he was in grade school and began playing electric guitar at age 13. He had previously taken piano lessons. His first electric guitar was a Univox Les Paul copy. Christ grew up in Catonsville, Maryland and attended Catonsville High School. D'Aquisto
James L. D'Aquisto (Brooklyn, November 9, 1935 – California, April 17, 1995) was an American luthier who concentrated on building and repairing archtop guitars. He served as an apprentice to John D'Angelico beginning in 1952 and later developed his own distinctive style. Career James D'Aquisto was born on November 9, 1935, into a musical Italian family. An aspiring jazz guitarist he visited luthier John D'Angelico's shop in 1951 which lead to him in 1952 becoming his apprentice. About his routine, D'Aquisto said: Later, he learned the "rough work" of the D'Angelico style. D'Angelico had a heart attack in 1959 and also parted ways with his long time employee Vincent "Jimmy" DiSerio. B.C. Rich is an American brand of acoustic and electric guitars and bass guitars. B.C. Rich had its origins in a guitar shop Bernardo Chavez Rico helped run with his father, which initially produced acoustic guitars that became popular amidst the folk music revival. Rico began making electric guitars in the late 1960s and established himself as one of the first boutique electric guitar builders, before releasing production models beginning in 1974. With the shop's name changed to B.C. Rich, Rico grew it into a company known for radical guitar designs that became popular with heavy metal bands beginning in the 1980s. ''Final Descent'' is the third and final studio album by American deathrock band Samhain, first released in 1990, more than three years after lead singer Glenn Danzig and bassist Eerie Von had recruited guitarist John Christ and drummer Chuck Biscuits to form Danzig. As of 2025, the album is not available on any streaming services. Original release Tracks 1-5 are previously unreleased songs, at least some of which had been intended for the ''Samhain Grim'' album before it was aborted when the band changed its personnel, and finally its name, to Danzig. Tracks 6-11 had been released in 1987 on the first pressing of the ''Initium'' CD. ''Thrall-Demonsweatlive'' is an EP by American heavy metal band Danzig. It was released in 1993 on Def American Recordings and has been certified Gold. Music and recording The EP is split into two sections. The first section, ''Thrall'', consists of three new studio recordings that were tracked live and completed by the band in a single day. The studio recording "Trouble" is a cover of the Elvis Presley song featured in the movie ''King Creole''. Glenn Danzig had previously recorded the song with Samhain, which was later released on the box set version of their '' Final Descent'' EP. The second section, ''Demonsweatlive'', includes four live recordings taken from the band's Halloween 1992 performance at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheater in California. ''Danzig 4'', also titled ''Danzig 4P'', is the fourth studio album by American heavy metal band Danzig. Released in 1994, it was the band's final album on American Recordings, and the last to feature the original lineup of John Christ (guitar), Eerie Von (bass), and Chuck Biscuits (drums). ''Danzig 4'' followed 1993's highly successful '' Thrall-Demonsweatlive'' EP and singer Glenn Danzig's 1992 instrumental solo effort, '' Black Aria''. ''Danzig III: How the Gods Kill'' is the third studio album by American heavy metal band Danzig, and the highest to chart at the time of its release in 1992 on Def American Recordings. It was reissued in 1998 by Def American's successor, American Recordings. Music and recording ''AllMusic'' says that ''How the Gods Kill'' "continues to expand the band's musical range". Def American's successor, American Recordings, reissued the album in the United States and United Kingdom in 1998. Eerie Von (born Eric Stellmann; August 25, 1964) is an American musician and photographer best known as the original bassist for the Heavy metal music, heavy metal band Danzig (band), Danzig. His preferred bass is the Fender Jazz Bass. Early life Eerie Von was raised in Lodi, New Jersey. As a child he gained an interest in drawing and art. He grew up listening mostly to Elvis Presley and 50s rock and roll music. Eerie Von began playing the drums and taking lessons at 8 years old. He attended Lodi High School (New Jersey), Lodi High School with future Misfits (band), Misfits guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein, Doyle, who introduced Eerie Von to the punk rock music of the Misfits. Chuck Biscuits
Chuck Biscuits (born Charles Montgomery on April 17, 1965) is a retired Canadian drummer best known for his work across multiple punk rock and heavy metal bands. Biscuits was a member of D.O.A. from 1978 to 1982, playing on the band's first two albums before briefly joining Black Flag and later Circle Jerks. He later joined Danzig in 1987, playing on the band's first four albums as well as their first EP before leaving in 1994. Most recently, he played in Social Distortion from 1996 to 1999.
