John Carlson (American Football)
John David Carlson Jr. (born May 12, 1984) is an American former professional football player who was a tight end in the National Football League (NFL). He was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round of the 2008 NFL draft, and later played for the Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals. He played college football for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Early life Carlson was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota, though his family moved to Litchfield right after his birth. As a football player at Litchfield High School, he was all-state in Minnesota his senior year. He played in the 2003 U.S. Army All-American Bowl alongside fellow Notre Dame Fighting Irish players Brady Quinn, Ryan Harris, and Tom Zbikowski. As a basketball player, Carlson was voted to the preseason McDonald's All-American list. He led the Litchfield Dragons to three state basketball titles during his freshman, junior and senior years. John Carlson (biologist)
John R. Carlson is an American biologist and professor. He currently holds the Eugene Higgins Professor of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at Yale University. He is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences. Research The Carlson lab studies insect chemosensation using the model organism ''Drosophila''. Significant contributions to the field include discovery of the olfactory receptor genes in insects using the ''Drosophila'' genome, called the ''Odorant Receptor (Or)'' gene family, followed by the discovery of the insect taste receptor genes, called the ''Gustatory Receptor (Gr)'' gene family, a system to deorphanize insect odorant receptors referred to as the "empty neuron" system, using which a study identified ligands for most of the ''Drosophila'' ''Olfactory'' ''Receptor'' (''Or'') repertoire and a similar study that characterized the ''Or'' repertoire of the ''Anopheles gambiae'' mosquito. John Carlson (ice Hockey)
John Carlson (born January 10, 1990) is an American professional ice hockey defenseman and alternate captain for the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted by the Capitals in the first round, 27th overall, in the 2008 NHL entry draft after playing a year in the United States Hockey League (USHL) with the Indiana Ice. Before reaching the NHL, Carlson played junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the London Knights and played professionally with the Capitals' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Hershey Bears. He also participated internationally for the United States in the 2010 World Juniors and 2014 Winter Olympics. Carlson won the Stanley Cup as a member of the Capitals in 2018, as the highest-scoring defenseman during the playoffs.
