John Bucklaschuk
John M. Bucklaschuk (born July 18, 1939 in Rossburn, Manitoba, Rossburn, Manitoba) is a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1981 to 1988, and a cabinet minister in the New Democratic Party of Manitoba, New Democratic Party government of Howard Pawley from 1982 to 1988. The son of Michael Bucklaschuk and Agnes Woycheshin, he was educated at Brandon University and the University of Manitoba, and worked as an educator before entering political life. Bucklaschuk married Colleen Christina Hagen in 1968. Ed Helwer
Edward Russell Helwer (born December 20, 1940) is a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He served as a Progressive Conservative member of the Manitoba legislature from 1988 to 2003. Although the Manitoba Progressive Conservative Party was in power for most of this period, Helwer was never appointed to a cabinet position (though he did serve as Party Whip at one point). Helwer was born in Selkirk, Manitoba. He worked as an Esso agent from 1963 to 1974, and was a Macleod Authorized Dealer from 1974 to 1983. From 1976 to 1996, he was also the owner of a small business called ''Rockwood Farm Supplies''. Helwer served as a municipal councillor in Teulon from 1969 to 1973 and 1977 to 1980, and was the town's Mayor from 1980 to 1988. He was also chair of the ''Hunter Hospital Board'' from 1977 to 1987. 1986 Manitoba General Election
The 1986 Manitoba general election was held on March 18, 1986 to elect Members of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Manitoba, Canada. It was won by the New Democratic Party, which took 30 seats out of 57. The Progressive Conservative Party won 26 seats and formed the official opposition. The Manitoba Liberal Party, which had not been represented in the previous legislature, won one seat. The Minister of Consumer and Corporate Affairs was a cabinet position in the government of Manitoba, Canada. The position initially emerged from the offices of Provincial Secretary and Minister of Public Works in the late 1960s. John Carroll and Rene Toupin, who held both of the aforementioned positions in different ministries, were also recognized as Ministers of Consumer and Corporate Affairs. As with many other government departments in Manitoba, its specific ministerial designation was changed several times. Ben Hanuschak was appointed to succeed Toupin in 1970, and was given the title of Minister of Consumer and Corporate Affairs and Internal Services. Keith Cosens
Keith Alan Cosens (July 7, 1932 – April 27, 1990) was a Canadian politician in Manitoba. He was a Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1977 to 1981, and served as a cabinet minister in the government of Sterling Lyon. Born in Teulon, Manitoba, Cosens was raised on the family farm near Argyle, was educated at Brant-Argyle School, Stonewall Collegiate and the University of Manitoba, taught school in Kelwood, Wawanesa and Rosser, and was vice-principal of Stonewall Collegiate in Stonewall, Manitoba before entering politics. In 1952, he married Marie Smith. He was elected to the Manitoba legislature in the 1977 election, defeating New Democrat George Schreyer by 720 votes in the riding of Gimli. 1981 Manitoba General Election
The 1981 Manitoba general election was held on November 17, 1981 to elect Members of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Manitoba, Canada. It was won by the opposition New Democratic Party, which took 34 of 57 seats. The governing Progressive Conservative Party took the remaining 23, while the Manitoba Liberal Party was shut out from the legislature for the only time in its history. The newly formed Progressive Party failed to win any seats.
