John Boyd (farmer)
John Wesley Boyd Jr. (born September 4, 1965) is an African-American farmer, civil rights activist and the founder of the National Black Farmers Association (NBFA). He owns and operates Boyd Farms, which has across three farms in Baskerville, Virginia where he grows soybean, Maize, corn and wheat and currently raises one hundred and fifty head of beef cattle. For 14 years Boyd was a Chicken (food), chicken farmer in a Perdue Farms breeder program. He was also a tobacco farmer for many years before filing for bankruptcy. He attended Southside Community College. Career Boyd is a fourth-generation farmer. He formed the National Black Farmers Association, a Virginia-based non-profit organization, in 1995. Virgil Goode
Virgil Hamlin Goode Jr. ( born October 17, 1946) is an American politician who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from 5th congressional district of Virginia from 1997 to 2009. He was initially a Democrat, but became an independent in 2000 and switched to the Republican Party in 2002. He was narrowly defeated in 2008 by Democrat Tom Perriello. In 2012, he was the presidential nominee of the Constitution Party, receiving 122,388 votes or 0.09% of the total. Thomas James Vilsack (; born December 13, 1950) is an American politician. He served as the 30th and 32nd United States secretary of agriculture from 2009 to 2017, during the Obama administration, and again from 2021 to 2025 during the Biden administration. James Stuart Gilmore III (born October 6, 1949) is an American politician, diplomat and former attorney who served as the 68th governor of Virginia from 1998 to 2002.
