John Barrett (bishop)
John Patrick Barrett (31 October 1878 – 2 November 1946) was a British clergyman who held high office in the Roman Catholic Church. He was born on 31 October 1878 in Liverpool, England. He was educated at St Edward's College, Everton, and at the University of London (he gained his Bachelor of Arts (BA) there, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) later, and a Doctor of Divinity (DD) from the Pontifical Gregorian University). He was ordained a priest on 19 June 1906 at Upholland, Skelmersdale, for the Archdiocese of Liverpool. After a period as a priest, he was elevated to the episcopacy as Auxiliary Bishop of Birmingham in 1927 and was appointed the fifth Bishop of Plymouth on 7 June 1929; he was enthroned on 31 July and continued in the post until his death. When his house was destroyed in an air raid in 1941, during the Second World War, he moved into a nearby convent, where he died suddenly but peacefully on 2 November 1946. John Edward Barrett (21 December 1928 – 11 August 2023) was an Australian rules football player, who first played for the Frankston Football Netball Club, Frankston Bombers in the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League during the second half of the 1940s, then for the Western Bulldogs, Footscray and Fitzroy Football Club, Fitzroy clubs in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the first half of the 1950s. Following this, he played with Wangaratta Rovers Football Club, Wangaratta Rovers (Ovens & Murray Football League, 1956), McKinnon Football Club (Federal Football League, 1957) and Hastings Football Club (Mornington Peninsula Football League, 1958-1961). Bass Drum of Death is an American garage punk band from Oxford, Mississippi, United States, currently signed to Fat Possum Records. History The band's frontman, John Barrett, formed Bass Drum of Death in 2008 as a one-man-band, playing both his bass drum and guitar. Although the band's members are from Oxford, Mississippi, they quickly became unmotivated by the lack of a music scene and decided it would be best to start in New York City. The touring band consists of two guitarists and a drummer. Barrett recorded their first two albums by himself. Their debut LP, '' GB City'', was released on April 12, 2011 by Fat Possum Records. Inflated Records also distributed the vinyl edition. In April 2011, Bass Drum of Death performed live on Fuel TV with MellowHype, of OFWGKTA, playing the song "64". John Henry Barrett (21 July 1913 – 9 February 1999) was a pioneering conservationist, author and broadcaster, who was the first Warden at Dale Fort Field Centre in Pembrokeshire. Early life and education Barrett was born in King's Lynn, Norfolk. He read Economics and Geography at Cambridge University. Second World War In the 1930s, Barrett joined the RAF and served with Bomber Command, reaching the rank of Wing Commander. During the early part of World War II he was shot down and became a prisoner-of-war. Jack Elvyn Barrett (18 February 1910 – 22 May 1983) was a British actor on film, television and stage, best known for his roles as Smellie Ibbotson in '' The Dustbinmen'' and Hylda Baker's father in '' Not On Your Nellie''. John Joseph Barrett (December 18, 1915 – August 17, 1974) was an outfielder in Major League Baseball from 1942 to 1946. He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Boston Braves. Barrett was born in Lowell, Massachusetts. He started his professional baseball career in 1937, in the Boston Red Sox organization. In 1940 and 1941, he played in the Pacific Coast League.
